    Fri 25 Nov 2016
    Week Ending 25th November 2016
This week, the following children have received a Head Teacher’s Award:
William – Year 3 – for his incredible diary entry with excellent words and adverbials.
Josh – Year 5 – for his unbelievable effort in Maths lessons.
Chloe – EYFS – for counting pins in 10’s

Jessica will be spending the week with class 8 due to 100% attendance.

    Diary of the week:
A very wet start to the week with constant rain on Monday leading to wet playtimes. I am delighted today however, that I did not have to speak to a single child - so well done to them all! Assembly on Monday was great when we enjoyed another chapter from our favourite story "The adventures of the wishing chair".

We have reminded the children to keep washing their hands as sickness is sweeping through school - even the teachers have been caught out!

On Monday night we had our Parent Parliament meeting. We had a really good discussion about parental engagement with school and how this can be improved, the new assessment system and how we use pupil premium to support some of our children. It was a super meeting and it would be great to see some new faces at the next meeting.

On Tuesday, I began my progress meetings with staff. This is where I get the chance to talk about your children and the progress they are making. This was further developed on Wednesday when the Senior teachers and I had a good look at the children’s books. The books tell me that your children are making really good progress and that they have a super attitude to learning. Presentation for most children was super and we will be ‘on the case’ for those where this was not the case.

Year 3 had a great day out at Brackenhurst and have been very keen to tell me all about it. Educational visits add so much to our curriculum and I am really pleased that staff are so creative when planning the half term’s activities.

Today saw the collection of chocolate for the chocolate tombola – Oh Yummy! There is so much, I might just stay here for the weekend.

    Greasley Beauvale v Underwood

The game started at a frantic pace with a number of passes going astray for the Greasley players. The away team were playing the better football and went ahead when a shot was deflected past George Moore, when he had the original shot well covered. Underwood could have easily gone in at half time 3-0 up, but for the heroics of the Greasley keeper.
At half time Greasley made some changes to the team and immediately started playing better football. They had a number of chances to draw level but the away keeper stopped everything.
Underwood scored a second goal against the run of play but Greasley continued to make at least 6 good chances to reduce the deficit.  A great goal from Craig Bailey made it 2-1 and now it was all Greasley. The away keeper must have made 10 great saves to prevent the home team drawing level.  With the last kick of the game Underwood delivered a good free kick into the box which George Moore got a fist to but it dropped to an Underwood player who scored with ease.
Underwood were a big, strong side and deserved their win on their first half performance.
Greasley were far better in the second half and created enough chances to win 2 games, never mind this one. On another day we would have scored 6 but at least the players are getting in the positions to score goals, we just need to convert our chances.  Heads up boys we have a big game on Thursday.
Man of the match for Greasley
    Harvey Bexon and Craig Bailey

Claude is spending the week with Poppy for super work in French.

    Diary of the week:

The weeks are simply flying by and Christmas is approaching rather to fast for us all!

The little ones are busily rehearsing their nativity and the older children have selected the songs they will be singing for the ‘Concert of light’.
On Monday we were interviewing for a new site manager; Mick retires in January but will be staying on with us on a part time basis, which is great. I will give you more information about the successful candidate when everything has been confirmed.

All staff and governors had their safeguarding training on Wednesday evening. The Local Authority provided the training and complemented the team on their extensive knowledge, which is great to hear.

Today I have been dressed as Pudsey as we are raising money for children in need. The children looked great in their pyjamas, but we have all been so warm! Initial count up shows that we have collected in excess of £300!

    Have a great weekend.

Awsworth Primary School v Greasley Beauvale Primary School Thursday 10th November 2016

After a very good performance against the league favourites, Larkfields, we travelled to Awsworth for another league fixture.  The team started very well playing some lovely football and were soon 3 goals to the good with Calum White scoring 2 and Sam Poxon getting the other one. The defensive pair of Harvey Bexon and Matthew Salisbury were well in command at the back and very rarely looked in trouble.
Half time brought a few changes with Cameron Pailing, Brandon Glover and Alistair Weeks coming on. Greasley continued to dominate the game scoring another 6 goals. The star of the second half has to be Cameron Pailing who scored a hat trick in an excellent 10 minute spell.  The other goals were scored by Sam Poxon and Brandon Glover and Alfie Kirk scored his first goal for the school team, with an impressive celebration!

An excellent performance from everybody involved. The man of the match was Cameron Pailing.
Thank you to all the parents for their support.

Amy – Year 4 – For designing a beautiful Divali card and writing a thoughtful and very reflective message

JESSICA, ‘WILF’s new puppet friend’, will be spending the week with class 11 due to 100% attendance.
The golden dustpan and brush for the ‘Tidy Classroom’ award will be spending the week in class 3 for their outstanding classroom environment.

    Diary of the week:
Another fabulous week at Greasley. A busy and hard-working atmosphere buzzing around the building and so much getting accomplished and still to look forward to.

Tuesday evening was very busy with our first disco of the academic year. It was VERY well attended and the place was ‘rockin’. A huge thank you to all the parents, who helped out to make the event a big success. What with the entry fee and confectionary on sale, we managed to raise £640.43 for school fund. Thank you to all parents, who bought their child’s ticket and allowed a little bit of spending money. They also looked fabulous. We had a few tired (or hyper) teachers at the governors meeting, which started at 6pm :)

The dance assembly this week was fabulous. It was so lovely to see the girls at their best and enjoying the three tracks that they danced to. There were a range of styles demonstrated and the girls were beaming throughout. Well done, girls and thank you to the parents for coming to watch. It was lovely to see you all in school!

Thursday, we saw the younger children in Early Years and Key stage 1 receiving their flu vaccinations as ‘Flu Fighters’. They were very brave and we hope that they manage to stay germ free and well this winter.

The week ended with a busy Friday. We started off with our Gold Book assembly, where we celebrated the excellent efforts and achievements of the children this week. It was also very exciting to send WILF’s new puppet friend ‘Jessica’ on her travels to the class with the best attendance this week (Well done, class 11). The puppet was actually presented to Miss Busby by Jessica, in year 3, who spent one of her weekends on Amazon to find the best friend for WILF. It was also very exciting to produce class 3 with the ‘Tidy Classroom’ award and the golden dustpan and brush. Pupil Parliament were part of the decision making process and took part in a walk around school to decide which classroom deserved the award the most. They were ruthless with their checklists and clipboards. Well done to all of them, who took the role very seriously.

In addition to a very busy morning, we also gave our respects as part of Remembrance Day and remembered the members of the armed forces, who have died in the line of duty. The children were very reflective and thoughtful and we were very proud of their behaviour during our 2 minutes of silence at 11am.

Looking ahead to next week, the children have been invited to wear their PJs on Friday 18th November and bring in a £1 to raise money for ‘Children in Need’. Pupil Parliament are also going to be very busy again with their clipboards and success criteria, conducting ‘Learning Walks’ to check on learning and behaviour (normally carried about by the senior leaders)…we can’t wait to see what they spot!

Have a lovely weekend and keep safe and warm :)

    Mon 07 Nov 2016
Greasley entertained Larkfields Junior School on Friday 4th November in their first league game. The game was played at a tremendous pace in the first half with both teams creating chances. The goalkeepers, however, were playing very well and the score stood at  0-0 at half time.
In the second half, Greasley stepped up the pace and matched a big strong Larkfields side in every area of the pitch. However, from a corner Larkfields took the lead with a good header from the central defender.
Greasley continued in their effort to get level with Craig Bailey and Brandon Glover going close. With the final kick of the game the ball was played into the Larkfields penalty box and Alistair Weeks got a good contact on the ball but just put it wide of the post, which would have been a deserved equaliser.
All the team played their part in the game and they can be proud of the way they conducted themselves. We are a young team this year but if we put in performances like this we won't lose many games. Larkfields are a very big and strong side and are considered favourites for the title this year but we more than matched them with some outstanding performances.
Both our defenders Harvey Bexon and Matthew Salisbury were the best players on the pitch without a doubt.
    Well done to you all.

This week, the following children have received a Head Teacher’s Award:
Jack – EYFS – for amazing writing about dinosaurs.
Imogen – EYFS – for amazing writing about dinosaurs.
Lara – Year 6 – for expert use of the frog method in Maths.
Naomi – EYFS - for amazing independent maths work.
    Oliver – Year 6 – for incredible WW2 homework.
Jack – Year 6 – for his amazing WW2 card game.

    Diary of the week:

It’s great to be back after the half term holiday and everybody has ‘hit the ground running’! It was lovely to see so many of you at parents’ evening, it was the best attended parents’ evening that we have ever had, with 100% in most classes, so thank you for that. I am sure that you found the autumn term reports informative, there is no statutory expectation to produce 3 reports a year, but we do find that it helps when we are all completely aware of what is going well and what the targets for development are.

We have a very busy half term ahead as we move towards the festive season, starting with our school disco on Tuesday. Many of the classes have school trips planned over the forthcoming weeks and we are beginning to learn the songs for the school productions. All details of these are available in the school calendar. I will be sending a school newsletter out shortly containing all of the key dates.
