Thu 23 Jul 2020 Mrs Bates

    Dear Parent and Carers,

Well, what a year! A year that we will never forget. A year that will go down in history and teachers will teach about one day! Unfortunately, COVID put a stop to ‘normality’, but it did not stop us doing what we passionately believe in. We have lived up to our vision and values and put the children and safety at the heart of the school community.

I have always believed that unexpected events can lead to unexpected gains. There are things in life, big and small, which define us and make us who we are. It has been a tough year for everyone in our community and we have come through it together. We will have better times ahead of us, but we aim never to lose the sense of community support and spirit, which has flourished over the last few months.

Before I look ahead to next year, I would like to reflect a little on this one first. I would like to thank all of you who have supported us in our decisions over the last 4 months and to those who have sent emails, messages and gifts to support both myself, the senior team and the rest of the staff. Overall, you have showed great understanding, patience and perseverance. What we all want now is for your children to return to full time school and receive a valuable education in safe surroundings. At this point, throughout lockdown and the wider opening, I am pleased to report that thankfully we have had no reported cases of COVID-19.

This year has been tough on all of our families. However, I would like to give a special mention to our year 6 children. They have had a different end to their time at primary school as they missed: SATs, their PGL residential, a leavers concert, SAT results to show their achievements and hard work and a normal transition into Year 7. We wish them all the very best for the future in their new secondary schools and hope that they take many memories with them.

Looking forward to next year, we have many positives ahead of us. In September, we are welcoming the new reception starters to Greasley Beauvale Primary School. We have specific activities for them on their first few days of transition, which will help our little ones to settle into their primary years. We have faith that their start with us is going to be a positive and safe one.

To all of our children, I would like to say that you have been very strong and shown incredible strength and bravery. You have helped in the fight against coronavirus by keeping safe, following the guidance and being true super heroes. This has been a tough time for everyone, but I hope that you will look back in later life with pride and understand the role you have played in helping others as well as yourselves. The main thing now is to relax over summer and have a proper rest (without home learning!).

Over the last week, we have sent home documents with clear explanations and safety guidelines for September. Please read and digest these carefully over the summer, and refresh before the return to school, as there are many necessary changes for your child’s safe return to school.

I wish you a safe and happy summer. I know this year has not been what any of us wanted, but I speak on behalf of all of our staff when I say how much we are looking forward to seeing all of our children return. Personally, I cannot wait to see the WHOLE school back together on Wednesday 2nd September 2020 (albeit it in a staggered, different and safe way).

Thank you as ever for your continued support.

Have a safe holiday, keep positive and never forget to smile!

    Yours sincerely,

    Mrs Bates

This week, the following children have received recognition from me for their home or school learning through Class Dojo:

Ashton – Indigo 1 – For his amazing work during lock down through home learning. His portfolio is packed with lots of great pieces and it is clear that he has put 100% effort and pride into his studies whilst at home. His presentation is excellent and it is clear that he is enjoying the work and working excellently either with parents or independently. I also think he was one of the first children to need a new home learning book from school (as his first one was filled with lots of great pieces). Well done, Ashton. This work really will stand you in good stead ready for the start of Year 6 as 5 months off school is a long time.

Abigail – Indigo 1 – For very pleasing work during lock down and a packed portfolio reflecting 100% commitment to home learning. There has been so much work completed and many independent pieces also. Abigail also completed an amazing 24/7 story for the writing competition and it is definitely one of my favourites. Well done, Abigail. Once again, this work really will stand you in good stead ready for the start of Year 6 and you seem very ready for the challenge.

Ted – Blue 2 - For working consistently hard during lockdown. His portfolio is packed full of fantastic pieces of learning. In particular, he has worked really hard to improve his time on TTRS and is now a Rock Legend. Well done, Ted!

Ethan DF – Blue 2 - For being a super learner during lockdown. His portfolio is full of amazing work that he has completed. He has been writing stories on the computer and I have been blown away by his enthusiasm, with some of the stories even following on from the last! Well done, Ethan!

Throughout the week, we have gradually said goodbye to our Reception and Year 1 children as they break for the summer. We hope that they all have a rest and we can not wait to see them again in Year 1 and 2. They have done so well during their time in school these past few weeks and we know that they will be fine next year .

In addition, we say goodbye to our Year 6 children today for the last time ever. We treated them this afternoon with a visit from 'Jen's Whippy' ice cream van. A perfect opportunity to treat the wonderful Year 6 teachers too. Teachers will post the class photos to their own class Dojo accounts later today.

This year has been a pleasure with the year 6 children. As I said in their report letters, never did I think in September 2019 that their final year at Greasley would be cut short. They have missed out on so much: SATs, leavers plays, discos and their only residential at the school...as well as a full curriculum taught by their teacher.

However, they have been strong, done their absolute best throughout lock down and I couldn't be prouder of their resilience and determination since they have been back from mid-June.

They are still ready for secondary. I know they will give it their all and they know that I want them to continue to smile and follow the Rainbow Values.

Go and 'Paint Your Own Rainbow' Year 6s! Goodbye and good luck!

We continue to plan for September and as our plans are finalised later today or Monday, we will have those to you as soon as possible. Rest assured, we have been taking our time to ensure that our plans are well thought through and communicated effectively (both for safety and academic purposes). We are also very aware that the guidance is changing all the time.

Next week, we look forward to seeing our Year 2-5 children for their ‘Goodbye days’ on Monday or Thursday and we can’t wait to see them!

A reminder that school is shut next Friday for our INSET Day

Take care, keep safe and continue to smile.

    Warm regards,

    Mrs Bates

This week, the following children have received recognition from me for their home or school learning through Class Dojo:

Oliver – Violet 1 – For becoming the new Master Chef at home. I am astounded by the many recipes he has followed and for showing an amazing portfolio throughout food week (and lockdown in general) Over the last week, he has baked a fabulous rainbow cake, cooked southern fried chicken burgers, stir fry’s and much more! All cooked and baked with a smile and dedication. A huge well done, Oliver.

Ava-Grace – Red 1 – For some super writing today. She wrote a full sentence independently about going to the shop and used a full stop. She used her phonics to help her and was very proud of her work and letter formation.

This week, I also had the hard job of choosing winning stories from year 5 and 6 based on the 24/7 story writing challenge. Basically, write a story in exactly 24 words in 7 minutes. The results are as follows:

    24/7 story challenge

    First Place

    Mr Khan’s Class

One day the announcement came. My life ground to a screechy halt. The world became a silent, unseen threat. What would happen to us?

    Written by Zara B

    Second Place

    Mr Honey’s bubble

One day the world stood still, a virus shut us away. A long stay at home and normal gone away. Someday things will change.

    Written by Oliver P

    Third Place

    Mrs Jamson’s bubble

One day a little girl came across a person being accused of a crime and said, “I hope one day we have equal rights”.

    Written by Millie C

    Runner up

    Miss Marvin’s bubble

Darkness crept into the centre of my soul. My eyes clouded over black. I found myself writhing on the floor, releasing a blood-curdling shriek.

    Runner up

    Mrs Parnell’s Class

One day we travelled to Ibiza

    The sun shone,

    The ocean glistened,

    Paradise

    The sand white,

    The sky blue,

    I never want to leave

    WELL DONE, EVERYONE! : )

A busy week as we planned for the final week in school for the Years 2-5, transition before the end of term and September. Last week you will have received the annual school report (albeit a little different this year due to COVID and time missed in school) and you will have been notified of the class teacher for your child for next year.

This week, your child will have received videos from their new class teacher about September and a welcome to the new year group in general. You will have also received phone calls from the new class teacher and this was an opportunity for them to introduce themselves and also for you to share anything you needed to talk about. We hope that you have found these useful (some may continue into next week if you haven’t had a call yet).

Today has been fabulous for the year 6 children. They have had their end of term treat (and leavers activity day) with a great event organised by Hagg Farm. They have completed adventurous outdoor activities through the day which involved: archery, blindfolded walks, large jenga, marshmallow burning around the camp fire and more. They had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Super team building skills developed and so much fun and relaxation had by all. They looked super in their leavers hoodies and really did shine!

Their morning also started brilliantly as they had an online careers events where they talked to people in different professions - learning about training opportunities, linked skills to jobs and asked some great questions about life as an adult in the real world! Such a good day for the year sixes and I hope that they thoroughly enjoyed it.

Next week, we say good bye to the Reception, Year 1 and year 6 children as they end their current academic year. We will miss them all, but are also very much looking forward to seeing the Year 2-5 children who return for their ‘Goodbye Day’ in the final week. Further information to follow about this next week.

We continue to plan for September and as soon as our plans are finalised, we will have those to you as soon as possible. Rest assured, we are taking our time to ensure that our plans are well thought through and communicated effectively (both for safety and academic purposes).

Take care, keep safe and continue to smile.

    Warm regards,

    Mrs Bates

  • Cassey the Snake update

    Mon 06 Jul 2020

Leah, in year 5, would like to update you on her 'Cassey the Snake' experience...

    Hi everyone,

I meet with the council today and we have had a discussion about Cassey the snake 🐍 and unfortunately we have had to move her to a safer location for now, which is just a few meters down from where she was and she is looking good. She has not moved that far from where she was. So please keep making your beautiful rock's / stones so we can continue to make her bigger.

The council have said that we might be able to concrete some of them in which would be a lovely idea fingers crossed we should find out in the next two months.

So we have plenty of time to get her even Here is a picture of her now and where about she is. We hope it continues to make you smile. Thanks again, Hayley and Leah xx

    2nd July 2020

This week, the following children have received recognition from me for their home or school learning through Class Dojo:

Jayden – Indigo 2 – For showing true Greasley resilience, especially when some topics may have not always engaged his interests. When fully engaged, Jayden has produced some super pieces and through positivity, he has demonstrated quality and produced well thought out pieces.  His presentation on his Class Dojo Portfolio has also shown determination. This enthusiasm will impact positively on his learning when he returns to school. Well done for keeping going, Jayden.

Archie – Yellow 1 – For some excellent work on class Dojo and showing how super he is being at home with his home learning. I have seen an array of stories, songs, posters etc and all keep getting better and better as he continues to take feedback well from Mrs Clarke and continues to improve his work. His work ethic at home is as good as what it was at school and he is always smiling on his pictures. We are very proud of you, Archie. Well done and keep it up. I

Hunter – Red 2 – For producing a fabulous collage picture to show the animals in captivity in a zoo. He really thought about the bars, wildlife and bars to show the enclosure.

Harry – Yellow 2 – For producing a fabulous collage picture to show the animals in captivity in a zoo. He really thought about the bars, wildlife and bars to show the enclosure.

This week has been another good week in school. Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 have settled well now into their new routines and we have seen even more children return this week following successes being shared. It has been so lovely to see more children in school over the past two weeks and new routines have been followed well. Children have stuck to the protective measures well and realise now that the new rules in school are not hard to follow and they are there to keep everyone safe.

At the beginning of the week, the school reports were shared remotely and we hope that you enjoyed reading the letters. Progress and attainment information was not provided in the annual report due to the impact that COVID-19 had on the summer term. Remember to refer to the spring term report for this information, which was shared a few months ago.

Tomorrow, you will receive notification of your child’s class teacher for next year. Class lists take time and lots of conversations, and decisions around class teachers for the following year take a number of factors into consideration. I also communicated with you today about the transition plan for the next few weeks and the plans for the final week of term for Years 2-5. More information will follow to those year groups throughout next week.

We hope that you have a super weekend and we look forward to carrying out many of the above plans in place to aid transition for your child. Remote ways of working has become a new way of life during COVID-19. We fully appreciate that this is far from ideal (it isn’t for the teachers either) but we continue to work positively and look forward to working with you more personally throughout the Autumn term (where ever possible of course!)

Take care, keep safe and continue to smile during these difficult (but easing) times.

    Warm regards,

    Mrs Bates
