  • Head Teacher's Blog!

    Fri 21 Oct 2016
    Week Ending 21st October 2016
This week, the following children have received a Head Teacher’s Award:
Ruby – Year 3 – for her fabulous independent writing.
Thomas – Year 3 – for his amazing recount of a visit to a castle.
WILF will be spending the week with class x due to x% attendance.
    Diary of the week:
A few parents at school have been asking how the fund raising night went and how much was raised for the ward. I received this lovely message
“Everyone involved in ‘The Big Hairy Shave of’ would like to say a massive thank you for everyone’s support and contribution.
The raffle tickets sold at school raised £110 and the final total was a massive £1700.
The hospital have said that they are going to use the money to provide the children on Ward E39 with a visit from Santa and an amazing present each.
People who won Raffle prizes but were not there on the night will be contacted in the next few days.”
It was a great night and a very worthy cause.

    Diary of the week:

WOW, what a busy week in school. We started off with our annual harvest festival on Monday where we were inundated with your generous food gifts and offerings. We celebrated the food that we get and everything sent in was delivered to the Eastwood Food Bank.
Children have started making their Christmas card designs this week (yes, Christmas already!). Soon your child will come home with their design, which hopefully you will want to purchase and help to raise money for the Children’s Oncology ward (E39) at the Queen’s Medical Centre. We hope that you will help to support this charity by buying your child’s Christmas card, whilst also putting a smile on the face of friends and family.
The year ones enjoyed a super walk to the library, fortunately the rain stopped long enough for the return journey! They all had a super time and I am told that they behaved very well. They are off on their travels again next week.
Observations have been carried out in all classes now and we have been so impressed. There is some super teaching around school, which means that children are focussed, having a good time and making progress. It really has been great to see.
Remember that next week the children are not in school on Friday due to the INSET day and we then close for the October half term.
Have a super weekend and let’s hope the sun continues to shine for a little longer.

WILF will be spending the week with class 11 due to 100% attendance.  Can you keep your eyes peeled for a friend for WILF – we are on the search for a new puppet!
    Diary of the week:
This week 3 final year students have joined us from Nottingham Trent University.  They have settled really quickly and I am sure that they are both going to be an asset to our team over the next few weeks.
On Thursday this week we had our termly ‘Art Day’.  It was great to see the children being so creative and they have produced some super pieces.  They will all be displayed over the next few days so do pop in and have a look!
Today we have said goodbye to Mrs Lynne Fowkes.  Lynne has taken her retirement early in order to spend some special time with her growing grandsons and we wish her all the best.  Lynne will be really missed; she has held on to the purse strings very well as well as being a supportive team member to everybody.

On Monday we will be holiday our Harvest Festival, so please remember to send produce in with your children.  It is an annual event and it is always very well supported.
