Reading at Home

Reading books and home school diaries

Reading frequently at home really can make a difference to a child's progress and attainment, not just in reading but across the curriculum. We would recommend that children read at least 3 times per week, recorded by an adult in the home school diary.

Reading books and home school diaries should be brought into school and taken home daily.

Children are allocated a coloured book-band based on their reading attainment and they are encouraged to choose their own book from this band. When they have finished reading a book, children can change their books at certain times during the school day. They may sometimes be encouraged to reread books to support their reading fluency and comprehension.

Children will also be allowed to bring books home from our school library or the class library. This book may be one they would like you to read to/with them or one they would like to read themselves.
