Fri 26 Nov 2021 Mrs Bates

    Week Ending 26th November 2021

Classes currently in-line with national averages (96%) are as follows:

    Red 2, Yellow 1, Yellow 2, Blue 1 and Blue 2

Head Teachers’ Awards this week have been awarded to:

Aaron – Violet 1 – for a very emotive piece of writing, which used rhetorical questions, empathy and imagery. Really impressive and left me with goose bumps and a lump in my throat. Well done for overcoming your obstacles with writing. Keep up the hard work and keep the passion going. I could tell you loved this piece and was very proud of yourself.

Following our inspection on the 2nd and 3rd November 2021, we are very proud to announce that inspectors judged our school to be GOOD in all areas with aspects of OUTSTANDING in Personal Development. We are proud of the report, and grades, as it demonstrates how hard everyone has worked over the past few years. In 2019, Ofsted produced their new Education Inspection Framework, and since then we have been challenged with the global ‘Covid’ pandemic!

We are delighted by the developments made by all of us over the years, and the feedback. It has been our pleasure this week to share the Ofsted report with you as it demonstrates the dedicated work of the whole staff team, governors, children and parents.

Throughout the two-day inspection, the senior leadership team, curriculum leaders and governors received more detailed feedback from the Ofsted team (beyond the finalised report). They confirmed the judgements that we had already made about our school, and it was agreed that the leaders know the school well. We were ‘strong’ and ‘solid’ in many areas and the outstanding criteria for the Personal Development judgement was discussed at length. Safeguarding is very well led and managed, and the school promote and prioritise reading from an early stage. The school celebrates diversity and there is a strong sense of mental health and wellbeing. The values of the school underpin policies and practice and the sense of teamwork was clear at all levels.

Thank you for your support over the two-day inspection. Your discussions with inspectors, and views shared through Ofsted’s Parent View consultation, were very much appreciated as it also confirmed what we were saying about our school too.

We are incredibly proud of our school and all the people associated with it. ‘Onwards and upwards’ is now what we firmly believe, and we are determined to keep making developmental changes and improvements.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

Classes currently in-line with national averages (96%) are as follows:

    Yellow 1, Red 2, Yellow 2 and Blue 2

Head Teachers’ Awards this week have been awarded to:

Harper – Yellow 2 – For a mature approach to maths. She mastered column addition for two 2-digit number easily. She then went on to bridging the tens and was able to explain to me why we always have to start by adding the ones column first

Isla Jay – Indigo 2 – For an outstanding ode: Ode to an Imposter. She has chosen some really powerful abstract nouns to have an impact on her audience. AMAZING and so powerfully read to me too

Jemima, Abbie, Abigail, Seth, Olivia H, Isla, Olivia N and Martha - Red 2 – For being able to use their phonics knowledge and skills expertly to write words from the story ‘Look Up’. Words including jet pack, bag, cat, box, rocket and jacket! Very impressive work from our little ones this week…and they really are enjoying their writing too

Summer – Orange 1 – For fantastic writing of a conversation between the bear and the rabbit from their class story. Summer even remembered to use inverted commas to show what the characters had said

We continue to work hard through our curriculum plans and areas of development. We are extremely proud of what our inspectors discovered about our school during inspection, but as I have talked to the whole school about, we can only continue to get ‘better and better’. As I keep saying, I look forward to being able to share the outcomes and the report with you.

As we approach winter, coughs and colds continue to set in and Covid continues to challenge us. We do have cases in school and we continue to monitor the individual classes and situation. Can I please remind you that if your child has a continuous cough, high temperature and/or a change to their taste and smell then we have to take it that your child is displaying COVID symptoms and you should arrange for a PCR test to be taken. The LA wrote out to all heads this week to remind us that LFTs are not designed for younger children and, albeit helpful to identify asymptomatic people, they should not be used to identify if a child has COVID or not. Therefore, if your child presents with COVID symptoms then we will ask you to collect your child and take them for an official PCR. This is also the same for staff in school (and adults in general). We appreciate that this is a difficult time of year to establish what course of action is required, but under the circumstances we need to act in the interest of safety. We have just seen Blue 1 during COVID management restrictions, and I think everyone would agree that to be part of an isolating class, within the school building, is hard for everyone involved. Thanks for your understanding and consideration of others in advance.

A reminder to our Year 5 and 6 parents that next week we will be inviting local police into school to talk to the children about safe use of phones and photography amongst peers and wider. Mr Honey has arranged the event with local officers and we look forward to hearing the key messages (many of us are parents too and know the vulnerabilities that our youngsters face).

In terms of our local PCSO, we have had some conversations about local community anti-social behaviour. This has included after school behaviours from local youths and during the weekends. We are concerned about the number of teenagers trying to enter the grounds during the autumn darker evenings and weekends and therefore, we will be raising with governors over the next few weeks whether CCTV is a need for the school. I would like all parents and members of the community to please call 101 if they see anti-social behaviour in or around the school grounds beyond the school opening hours. Thanks for your support in advance.

On a brighter note, today we celebrated and supported Children and Need. We all came to school in either Pudsey related clothing or items of the brightest colours to show our support. Thank you to Miss Marvin for organising the day. We had fun and times of reflection and we raised money for this wonderful cause through cash and online donations. The final figure is being calculated and THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR THEIR SUPPORT. If you would still like to donate then you can using the school’s Just Giving page link as follows: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/emma-poxon1?utm_source=Sharethis&utm_medium=fundraising&utm_content=emma-poxon1&utm_campaign=pfp-email&utm_term=eeb7b769e2e546f0b421f14ec26c5671.

    “Together, we can!”

Have a great weekend everyone! Take care, look after yourselves and make memories,

    Mrs Bates

    HEAD TEACHER AWARDS THIS WEEK:

Laurel, Xsana, Aniyah, Alfie, Charlie and Harry - Orange 1 - For amazing questions to create a missing poster to help find our hats!

WE STILL CAN NOT WAIT TO SHARE THE OFSTED NEWS WITH YOU :)

  • Head Teacher's BLOG!

Mon 08 Nov 2021 Mrs Bates

It was so lovely yesterday evening to receive a Sunday message from Mrs Barrowcliffe:

I just wanted to let you both know how proud I am of Pippa. On Friday, I was asked to do the welcome speech at Rev'd Dodd's collation tonight. When I arrived at church this evening, I spotted Pippa and asked her if she would like to help me. We only had time for a quick practise but, when the time came, she came out to the front of the church and was able to tell Denise which school we came from and also that at Greasley you “paint your own Rainbow.”

She was an absolute star and was certainly less nervous than I was stood in front of the Bishops, Councillors and other important people. I have promised her 2 Dojo’s for tomorrow but I just thought you ought to know.

    Mrs Barrowcliffe :)

We are SO proud of Pippa (Orange 2). After a busy week already, this was a huge achievement for Pippa and we are pleased that she was able to share our ethos and values with the church and its community

Thank you also to Mrs Barrowcliffe for representing the school last night. Rev'd Dodd is now a school governor and we look forward to making wider links with the church community over the coming months and years.

    Week Ending 5th November 2021

Head Teachers’ Awards this week have been awarded to:

Sonny – Yellow 2 – For being an absolute super star this week and smashing top marks on his chart this week! Achieving all of his targets and really striving to make a difference this week – well done, Sonny! We are very proud of you.

A great week back in school following a two week half-term break. We all hope that you had a great holiday and managed to have some special time together as a family.

Miss Hanson returned to school this week as Mrs Branigan and I hear that she had a great wedding (despite the change in the weather). I also heard over the holidays that Mrs Henshaw gave birth to her second child and we welcomed baby ‘Florence’ to the Team GB team. Both mum and baby and are doing well. I hope that you will join me in congratulating our staff members as they venture in to different stages to their lives.

During this term, we continue to work on our school priorities, especially those associated with the curriculum, writing and the development within the Early Years curriculum. One of the most exciting developments so far for Reception, has to be their new playground! WOW, what a transformation! As you walk past, please feel free to take a look at the playground and the provision now on offer to our youngsters.

Another exciting development this term is going to the library project that is due to start and be finished by Christmas! We can not wait!

The children have now settled back into their learning/topics and the highlight this week has to be the OfSTED inspection! What a start back to the half-term. Never did we expect to get the Ofsted call on the first day back after the holiday, but we were ready :)

The inspection went very well; we are incredibly proud of everyone (including the children, parents and carers who supported us in the consultations and conversations with the inspectors at the gate). We are not able to share the outcomes with you currently as the report is not yet written and quality assured. However, we cannot wait to share the results with you as we are proud, but also more than aware of what needs working on next – no surprises at all!

    Have a great weekend everyone!

    Warmest wishes,

Mrs Bates and the wonder TEAM here at GB x

  • Kimberley and Ashfield 7-a-side Tournament Report

Thu 04 Nov 2021 Hayden Sedgwick, Oliver Shipley and Mr Leyshon

We arrived at the tournament not even knowing who was going to play in which position since this was our first match after a long time of not playing (because of Covid). Our first match was against Horsendale. We all played outstanding however, the ball just wouldn’t go in the net no matter how hard we tried. The second match we won 1 – 0 against a good Holly Hill team. Ethan Cross scored a smooth goal in the bottom right corner to send the team wild with our first win of the tournament. In the third match, we played against Larkfields and the score ended in a 0 – 0 draw. It was a good match but we knew we were the better team and had most of the possession and scoring chances. The last game of the group stages was important as we knew we’d go home if we lost and we’d probably get through to the semi-finals if we won… We won 2- 0 and played amazingly well! Oliver Chapman scored two immense goals to send us through to the semi-finals against the Group A winners Hollywell.

In the semi-final we played against a team who were yet to lose a game and that all other teams were afraid of. That didn’t put us off though! We played some excellent football and managed to win 2 – 0 again with goals from Alfie Ormondroyd and another from Oliver Chapman. Then, on to the game we were all hoping and waiting for, the final itself. Once again, it was Larkfields who met us in the final game for the trophy. Early in the game, after some great battling and running from Ethan Cross, Hayden Sedgwick slotted the ball gracefully into the bottom corner and it looked like the trophy was on its way home with us! However, they quickly bounced back with a well-worked volley and it wasn’t long before the game was in extra time. Extra time couldn’t find a winner so the cup winners were to be decided by a penalty shootout… And we won 3 – 2!!! The cup was coming home with us!!

  • Football Update

Wed 03 Nov 2021 Mrs Parnell

It is truly fabulous to let you know of our football team’s win at the Kimberley Schools tournament this week. During what was already turning out to be a busy week for everyone, the team had their first fixture of the season. The boys were absolutely bursting to get going on the pitch.  It did seem such a long while since all had been able to play matches. Although I was not able to go myself, there was no one more excited than me when I heard the news that we had reached the final of the tournament. At this point, I had no news more than that. When one of my class appeared back at school and told me they had won (on penalties too) I was completely bowled over. Having now spoken to all who attended, it does sound like am amazing match where all boys showed great sportsmanship and team work. Thank you to everyone involved and Mr. Leyshon for arranging. I am looking forward to hearing more as the team progress to the next stage of the county championship.

    Well done Greasley.

    Mrs Parnell
