2nd place goes to Green 1 for 98.28% attendance.

3rd place goes to Yellow 2 for 97.94% attendance.

1st place goes to Green 1 for 99.69% attendance.

A highlight for me this week has been watching the children in bubble sports days. The whole event was organised superbly by Mrs Parnell and teachers then planned their year group events individually. The children were either in Team Japan or Team GB and they were great competitors. Despite sports days happening in year group bubbles, instead of the whole school with spectators, they were all a great occasion. Children were excited and they competed well. Events involved running, throwing, jumping and some old classics in Reception such as the ‘sack race’.

I have been so proud of the children this term so far. They continue to rise to the challenges with their learning, aim high and ensure positivity during this very tricky time.

This week we unfortunately saw the year 1 bubble closed to a positive LFT for a staff member. The whole year group had to isolate as that staff member works across both classes as part of their contract. At that point, the bubble closed until the test was confirmed using a PCR at a testing centre. Luckily, the test came back negative and the staff member is ok. This meant that the bubble could end isolation straight away and the children can return to school on Monday.

This situation made us all realise that despite restrictions lifting, we still have a job to do with regards to track and trace and isolation periods (involving home learning). When isolating, home LFTs do not exempt close contacts from isolating and isolation rules from the government stand. I am aware of double vaccinated people continuing to test positive for COVID-19 and a school in Nottingham (5 miles from school) is currently closed due to 4 positive teachers. Keep safe everyone!

This week, the year 4 children have impressed us with their maturity and attitude whilst carrying out the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC). They used their quick recall facts of timestables and did their absolute best to answer the questions in the time allowed (quick fire recall I would say!) Well done everyone and we look forward to analysing the results as soon as they are released.

The year 1 children have also been impressing us with their Phonic Screening Check (PSC) whilst recalling their knowledge of phonics from sessions carried out since Reception. The children were smashing as they read out a list of 40 words during the check (and some even include 'alien words' to try and test them!) They are trying really hard, especially when so much learning time has been affected over the last two academic years. Some of the checks continue next week and results will be shared with the end of year reports.

Well done, everyone! Four and a half weeks to go...you can do it!

Next week, some sports days continue (Year 3 and 6) and then we can share the final scores and winners! I can’t wait to see more competitors soon as part of Team Japan or Team GB.

    Have a great weekend, everyone!

    Warmest wishes,

    Mrs Bates

Aniyah – Red 1 – For choosing to complete writing activities independently and sounding out the words so she includes all of the sounds.

Jax, Alfie, Isabella, William and Jack – Yellow 2 – For fantastic writing about a magical shell, using correct punctuation, impressive vocabulary and conjunctions

A hardworking week in school. Children are now into the depths of their topics and knowledge is beginning to ‘stick’ and be developed upon.

On Tuesday, we had a great visit from a phonics specialist, from the English Hub, who observed and supported with phonics teaching and interventions. We watched some great sessions and it was so lovely to be looking at the great progress, which is being made in phonics across Reception and Key stage 1. We heard children read and it is clear that our newly purchased book-banded books really are having an impact. We are proud of our new approach to early reading and phonics, and we are making great way with the ‘love of reading’ too.

Teachers are deep into their report writing and we look forward to sharing these with you at the end of the term.

Next week, the year 1 children have their phonics screening checks (as do the children form year 2, who did not pass in the autumn). Additionally, the year 4 children have their multiplication times table checks. We wish them all the luck and we know that they will do their very best.

We are deep in the depths of planning for September. We are making some good decisions and we look forward to sharing everything with you.

We wish you a very lovely weekend, especially for those dads over Father’s Day.

    Warmest wishes,

    Mrs Bates

Head Teachers’ Awards this week have been awarded to:

Archie – Red 2 – For fantastic phonics and English today. Archie helped our whole class to spell the tricky word ‘was’ too

Aaliyah – Red 2 – For making fantastic progress with her writing. She has used capital letters, space, full stops and phase 3 sounds as well as tricky words

Isaac – Orange 2 – For independently choosing a bead string to support him to work out the answers to some tricky subtraction problems.

A super week back in school. We have had sunshine, laughter and a sea of smiles in and around school. The weather really has helped to return to school in a positive way, and the children really have returned to school this week ready for the longer and harder half term ahead.

Before the half term holiday, the children had their NFER assessments and the teachers spent the INSET day analysing the results, assessing the successes and gaps and planning for the rest of the academic year. They have also started the end of year reports…I cannot believe we are approaching the end again already! What a year!

Another reminder that formal PE kit is expected on PE days (in the same way that uniform is expected on a daily basis). We are currently considering the move to this being a set plan for the next academic year, but we want to ensure that children remain with high expectations and standards and wear the correct uniform daily please (this includes PE).

Please can I also remind you to provide your children with a sun hat, cream and water on a daily basis. Based on staggered playtimes, and areas for some year groups, shade is not always possible and we need to ensure that the children are sun-safe all day.

I am currently being asked questions about staffing for next year, and I hope to have that confirmed within the next week. I know it’s an anxious time for you all, but rest assured hours of planning goes into year group planning and we have many needs, personalities and mixes to consider. I will ensure that these plans are communicated to you as soon as they are confirmed. Sit tight and trust us : )

I hope you are all continuing to keep safe. A reminder that the vaccines are now open to the over 25s and lateral flow tests on a biweekly basis are one of the ways to help keep the community safe. Cases are starting to rise again and I hope that you all continue to be as safe as possible within the guidelines. I understand what it is like as a parent, when our children’s bubble close. Let’s try and avoid more closures wherever possible!

Have a great weekend everyone as we approach a mini heatwave! Enjoy and take care.

    Warmest wishes,

    Mrs Bates
