Thu 26 Jul 2018 Mrs Michelle Bates

    25th July 2018

Well, the final day of the academic year has arrived and what a day it was.

The day started with a visit from Mrs Chambers to present her Year 5 'Creative Chambers' award to Chelsea. It was a great event and everyone was so pleased for Chelsea. Her parents and grandparents were very proud of her and it was lovely to read what Mrs McKellar-Savage had written on her certificate. It was great to hear about Mrs Chambers’ travels and we wish her lots of luck in her new adventures for the next academic year.

Following this assembly, we also awarded all the children, who had achieved 100% attendance this year, with their gold pin badge. The children were delighted with the awards and wore them with pride. Over the last three days, we have handed out 46 gold badges, 67 silver badges and 75 bronze badges. We are very pleased with the children’s attendance this year.

Later in the afternoon, we wished Mr Fisher well for his wedding in the summer and said our farewells to Mrs McKellar-Savage. She is about to embark on a new teaching journey in Cornwall, along with her family, and we wish her lots of love and luckfor the future.

We also said goodbye to our year 6 children, who go on to their secondary schools in September. When I joined Greasley, I was a teacher in year 4 and have taught half the year group. Therefore, I can vouch for their desire to want to do well and succeed and as a result, I think they all have very bright futures ahead. I wish them all the luck and happiness.

Have a great summer everyone and we look forward to seeing you all again on Wednesday 5th September 2018.

Take care and enjoy making memories,

    Drum roll please....

Just to keep you posted on the achievements of the Greasley Hub so far. Today, they banked £1406 after the summer fair and £736.67 from the smart tubes and collected 20p's.

We are so pleased as the total in the Greasley Hub bank account, from this academic year, is £4,982.67.

This will be spent on 'Project Playground', during the autumn term, and I can't wait to see the developments taking shape.

Thank you so much to everyone involved.

    Warm regards,

    Mrs Michelle Bates

What another busy and productive day!

The day started with a great assembly to celebrate the attendance of children across school. A bronze badge and certificate was provided to all the children, who have achieved 97% to 98.5%. In addition, the silver badge and certificate was awarded to children with 98.6% to 99.9% attendance. Tomorrow, we will present all the children, who have achieved 100% attendance , with a gold badge and certificate.

Following the assembly, I then met with one of our parents (a graphic designer) to discuss the way in which we can present our new vision and Rainbow Values around school in the autumn term.

    Our Vision:

At Greasley Beauvale Primary School, our vision is for everyone to reach their true potential, nurture their talents and foster a personal love of learning through a safe, engaging and challenging curriculum. Our vision is shared by the whole-school community and we are proud of our school and what we stand for.

    Our Aims are:

To develop our social skills in order to become effective communicators and build relationships

To take risks in our learning and challenge ourselves in our journey to reach our full potential

To be truly respectful and empathetic, allowing us to embrace individuality

To be forward-thinking, embracing creativity and nurturing curiosity about the world

To be resilient and unafraid of failure

To be independent and self-confident lifelong learners

To set ourselves high aspirations and strive for excellence so that we can be the very best we can be

    Our Rainbow values are:

Respect and acceptance – “Everyone is equal, everyone is unique”

Active body and active mind – “Take ownership over your health and well-being”

Inclusive yet individual – “Embrace diversity and be proud of who you are”

Nurture, develop and grow – “Persevere and take risks with your talents and potential”

Believe in yourself – “Be confident in your choices”

Overcome your obstacles – “Be brave, show resilience and challenge yourself”

Wonder and curiosity – “Ask questions and seek answers”

At Greasley Beauvale Primary School, follow the Rainbow Values to

    “Paint Your Own Rainbow”

The day ended brilliantly with the year 2 parent event as they shared their experiences of their residential to Wollaton Park. We heard camp fire songs, readings of their experiences and saw some lovely photographs…what great memories shared. We also saw the lovely art work of the children, who stayed in school.

    Another great day at Greasley.

    Take care,

WOW, just WOW...what an amazing "Summer fair"! Definitely a GREAT afternoon of fun had by all.

I would personally like to thank all my fantastic PTA members; some good friends & grandparents, cake makers, the kitchen staff, the amazing Steph, all the teachers (especially the ones in the stocks), the great office, staff along with Chris, and of course you parents. Without the help and time of people, we couldn't have successful events like this.

We made a grand total £1127, which will help towards "project playground" and be put with money from the Smartie initiative, which also made £729.

If you would like any information on how you could join or help the "PTA Hub", please email dkemp@greasley.notts.sch.uk...even a little time goes a long way. It puts smiles on the children's faces, which is what we all we want!!

    So, "Thank you!"

    23rd July 2018

    What a brilliant day!

We started with the ‘Beauvale Got Talent’ final. Wow, we have so much talent in our school. We all witnessed dances, signing, singing, rhythmic gymnastics, acrobatics, piano playing, DJ-ing…and more! It was a great event and well-attended by parents, carers and grandparents. The results were as follows:

    4th place – Josh (year 6)

    3rd place – Elise (year 5)

2nd place – Matthew and Jamie (year 6)

    1st place – Timea (year 6)

Whether the children placed or not, there were great performances all round and a perfect demonstration of the myth of talent and the power of practise.

The day ended with just as much fun as the whole school watched the year 6 football team play the teachers. The teachers managed to win 2-1 and there was a lot of competition. A great afternoon had by all once again.

Another super memory of a year at Greasley.

    Take care,

This week, a Head Teacher’s award was given to:

Austin – Year 3 – for a great attitude towards his maths. This week, he has also been congratulated for his conduct in assembly.

    Week Ending 20th July 2018

WOW, such a busy week in school. Such a fabulous array of activities and events to be proud of and celebrate.

We saw parental events from the Early Years, Year 1, Year 4 and Year 5 children: Early Years had a summer picnic; Year 1 had a garden party; Year 5 did a quiz to demonstrate their learning and Year 4 did a collection of songs, readings, performances and actions to represent the book ‘Running Wild’. All events were very well attended and it was so lovely to parents around school with their children.

On Thursday, we hosted our summer fair and once again, it was very well attended. It was a fabulous afternoon and evening of fun, games, stocks and bouncy castles. Lot of stalls and thanks to the Greasley Hub, they managed to raise approximately £1150…the stocks alone made over £100.

Thank you also for the contributions towards ‘Project Playground’. The Smartie tubes gave the children a great deal of pleasure (and purpose) and managed to raise £729 for the playground. We are very grateful for the contributions and look forward to spending in the autumn term. Thank you so much for your support.

I would also like to say a huge well done to Jessica in year 4 for raising £600 over the last week or two for the MS society. She did a cake sale, car boot and received donations, and I think this is an incredible amount of money to raise for such a worthy charity…especially at a young age.

Following the end of year reports going out, the week started with a great open afternoon; seeing so many parents in school. It also ended with a fun and enjoyable French afternoon on Friday.

Have a great weekend - a busy three days ahead.

    Take care,

This week, I would also like to commend Jessica in year 4 for the work she has done at home raising money for the MS society. She has baked cakes and is doing a cake sale this Saturday. She is reaching for the £200 mark and has already made her way into the papers this week. Take a look at her pictures and article below. Well done, Jessica, and good luck with the sale.

What a great week in school; ‘Aspirations Week’. This week is a fabulous chance for children to consider the world of work and what they can aspire to be in the future. During this time, the children have learnt about looking for jobs, reading adverts, writing CVs and letters of application and understanding the role of an interview. During the afternoons, they have then been in different classes, with different teachers, undertaking different jobs and skills.

The array of activities has been amazing and the children have had a great time. Below are a variety of overviews, from different teachers, showing you what activities and skills that they have shared with their groups:

This week I organised for Boz Yarrington, a former marine biologist and current science teacher at Hall Park to come into school to do a science lecture for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. The 45 minute lectures included interesting information about Boz's roles as a biologist and teacher. Boz brought with her two Year 7 'experts', Joel and Zoe, who helped to put on the informative lectures and ask and answer questions.

Boz and her helpers then demonstrated how to investigate if a heart is healthy with a live heart dissection, which could be seen on the big screen in the hall. Most of the children (and teachers) were fascinated and took time at the end of the lecture to have a closer look at the heart and ask further questions.

    Mrs Clarke

My activity for the week has been learning how to be an illustrator. I had Y2 on Tuesday afternoon and we started the session by learning all about some different sketching techniques: hatching, cross hatching, contour hatching, random hatching, ink wash and stippling. The children had a go at using these techniques first, before applying them to a piece of artwork where they drew around their own hand and then used the cross hatching technique to add detail. There were some real budding artists in the session, particularly Ted (cl6) and Harry (cl6); the boys showed great attention to detail and carefully perfected their sketching technique over the afternoon.

    Miss Thompson

I have chosen to do nursing as my activity this week! I chose it because my mum is a nurse and it is always something I found fascinating as a child myself! The children discussed what nurses do, what qualities they needed and then had a go at being a nurse themselves. They took patient details, felt temperatures, took pulses, wrote prescriptions and had a go at CPR on the Little Anne dummy. We also listened to a lovely song about making a difference every day when you are a nurse. Someone who really stood out to me was Seth for his enthusiasm to learn about nursing and to be a nurse himself!

    Miss Schofield

I did cake decorating. I chose it because I really do love a cake and because we have some really creative children in school - just what a decorator needs to be 😉 Isabelle (Year 6) has some amazing icing talent - she decorated her cupcake to look like a green hedgehog. I think that she even surprised herself with her newfound talent.

    Miss Manson

This week, we practised circus skills such as juggling, stilts and Diablos. This linked to our book for last terms topic - The man who walked between the two towers. The children had a fab time and Konna worked really hard to improve his plate spinning and Penny worked with me on team juggling-a real challenge. In addition, we also completed cake decorating. Mason and Keaton did a fab job decorating their cakes, making funny faces and putting ducks on them. They all mouldered the ready-made icing and shaped it to go on their cakes. Keira and Jack also did a fab whale on theirs and Ethan did a very detailed cat - a great time had by all.

    Mrs Stevenson

My session was on being a life guard and we looked at the different types of rescue that people could perform; the safest being the shout and signal rescue and then moving on to the throwing rescue, reaching rescue and finally the rope throw rescue. We also looked at the different flags that we might see on the beach, which show the children where it is safe to swim. Tate Lloyd was a fantastic drowning casualty and Evie-Mae Hawes was great at throwing the rope accurately.

     Mrs Barrowcliffe

What a great range of activities J

I hope that the Smartie tubes are going well, and thank you already to the children who have returned their tubes back full, or partly full, of 20p pieces. The children are working hard with their ‘chores’. We look forward to collating the raised sponsors and putting that money towards funds raised through the Greasley Hub, along with money in the budget for ‘Project Playground’.

Today, your child will bring home their end of year report . We hope that you find the report useful and informative. Please add a comment to the slip enclosed within the envelope and we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Monday for open afternoon (2.30pm – 5pm).

    Have a great weekend.

    Take care,

This week, the following children have received a Head Teacher’s Award:

Ethan – Year 2 – For some great work during ‘All About Me’ with Mrs Bexon.

I have had a great week this week. We have had lots going on and the children have enjoyed a history and art themed week…as well as many more opportunities.

This week, your children have all taken part in our fabulous History/Art week! Specifically, they have all learned about the very famous and very local legend of Robin Hood. Each class took part in a Robin Hood related art activity. We shared the work in Thursday’s assembly with children from each year group telling the whole school what they had learnt and how they had created their own artwork...we even had a fashion parade from Year 1 in their fantastic Robin Hood hats!

Wednesday was fabulous this week, as I met with three different groups of new starters ready for September. We did a morning, afternoon and evening for the parents, and children, who will be new to EYFS. The wonderful children had an opportunity to explore Early Years and meet their new teachers and staff. There were no tears and they all thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

On Thursday, it was then transition day for everyone. We missed the majority of the year sixes, as they spent the day in year 7 at Hall Park Academy. We then welcomed the new Early Years children again as all the children moved up through the years to spend time in their new classrooms with their new teachers.

On Thursday, I also finished looking at the 372nd school report. They all made for enjoyable reading and I loved commenting on every single one. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I did. Watch out for your envelope next Friday! In addition, we open our doors on Monday 16th July for open afternoon/evening.

Today we were interviewing for a new Teaching Assistant post for September. The TA staffing for September will be shared as soon as we establish year groups for them all now that the team is full.

To end the history and art themed week, the children were invited to dress up as a historical figure to round the week off. Each class chose a winner, who told their class about who they were and how they had made their costumes. We then all had a lovely treat and watched the Disney version of the Robin Hood film with ice-cream! Informative and a real treat in the hot weather – it provided a cool and relaxing end to another fabulous week!

Friday morning, we waved goodbye to the majority of the year 2 children as they went on their own little road trip. The year 2 children embarked on their first residential to camp in tents at Wollaton Park. They had a fun-filled day and evening planned and I think the staff were as excited to go as the children were. I went along Friday evening to visit them and take along the ice creams and iced lollies. They were all having a fabulous time and it was great to see them on their return Saturday morning also.

Friday evening, I also received good news from Mr Leyshon…H ey, I'll give you a little overview of our tennis adventures!...We won the first tournament against some Broxtowe schools without losing a single game to progress to the district finals. We had a head to head match against Sunnyside academy to become district champions in which we won 3 and drew 1 match to progress to the Nottinghamshire county finals. Then today we ended up finishing 5th as a team in the entire county! JX

Great news…I am very proud of all the children, who took part and would also like to thank Mr Leyshon for his sporting success this year. He has arranged so many great tournaments and opportunities for the school and our wonderful children this year.

I wrote to you all last week about ‘Project Playground’ and the plans we have for the playground. The children have now brought their Smarties tube home (or sweet alternative) and I look forward to seeing how they do with their errands during ‘Aspirations Week’. Thank you for your support in advance.

Today, we proudly saw England make their way into the Semi-finals of the world cup to play Croatia next week. As a way to celebrate, I am allowing all the children to wear ‘England-themed’ colours and attire during the school day on Wednesday. Year 5 are at Hall Park on Wednesday so unfortunately for them, they have to wear school uniform. However, they can be ‘England-ready’ on Tuesday to join in with the celebrations.

The weather is still beautiful and I hope that you all have a great weekend.

    Take care
