Fri 15 Oct 2021 Mrs Bates

    Week Ending 15th October 2021

Head Teachers’ Awards this week have been awarded to:

Amelia – Violet 1 – For exceptional effort with homework activities during the first half of the autumn term. She completed many activities and great pride was shown in all of her work. What a star! I loved the breadth of the pieces and the depth of knowledge across the curriculum that she shared. I don’t think I have ever given out 6 ‘Head Teacher Award’ stickers in one go, Amelia! Well done :)

As per the staffing update letter sent out this week, we have another member of staff who is joining the journey into motherhood. Mrs Bowen is due to have her first child in the spring term and we wish her all the luck during her pregnancy. In other parenting news, Mrs Henshaw has now started her maternity leave and we are eagerly awaiting news about the birth of her second child! How exciting, and I am sure you will join me in wishing her well.

During half term, we can also share that Miss Hanson will be getting married (Monday 18th October), and we can’t wait to see her pictures and memories. We hope that the weather is kind to her and her husband-to-be and that their mini-moon is a break to remember. Miss Hanson returns to Year One as Mrs Branigan.

We have had a great half term in school, since returning from the summer, in September. We have been working very hard on our 4 school priorities:

Priority 1: To develop the curriculum so that it provides clear progression in learning and clarity about what knowledge children need to know and retain over time

Priority 2: To strengthen subject leadership further across the whole school curriculum to drive improvement and raise pupils’ outcomes

Priority 3:  To develop a whole-school approach to writing to improve outcomes for all pupils

Priority 4: To develop and embed effective EYFS practice to deepen the knowledge and understanding of children in Reception

The children, staff and governors have been an absolute pleasure to work with this year so far, and I have high hopes for the developments this year. Our INSET day was focussed around the curriculum; monitoring and evaluating work and learning spaces so far; action planning; preparing for staff and pupil voice and considering future targets and discussions about behaviour. In addition, we want to ensure that all groups of children make progress and “know and remember more” over time.

We are proud of our developments so far, but please free to leave your views at Give your views | Ofsted Parent View, which always help to focus our development points and action planning,

Have a great half term everyone! A reminder that we return to school on Monday the 1st November after a two week half-term break.

    Take care, everyone!

    Warmest wishes,

    Mrs Bates

  • Cross County Update

Wed 13 Oct 2021 Mrs Parnell

Today, some children from year 5 and 6 took part in a Cross Country event at Hall Park Academy. There were events for girls and boys in both year 5 and year 6. The children were extremely excited and raring to get going once we got there at 9:30am!

I can honestly say that (without exception) all the children took part brilliantly and tried their very best. What was even better to see was that they were encouraging and cheering on all children from all the schools when they were spectating each race. I was so proud to be leading such a lovely group of positive children.

    Well done to everyone involved,

    Mrs Parnell

Fri 08 Oct 2021 Mrs Bates

Today, Greasley Beauvale Primary School helped spread the word that whatever you're going through, you're not alone with your mental health. To do this, we all wore something yellow and donated to YoungMinds. Everyone joined us by wearing yellow (even some of the parents!) and Rainbow Rewards was brightened up with yellow clothing, hair accessories and more!

Throughout the day, we talked about it being normal to have ups and downs. We've all felt the stress of lockdown; worried about the impact on our families and uncertainty about the future. But it's the little things that have got us through it - the morning walks; singing in the shower; the perfect cuppa; that Netflix show that got us all buzzing and the heart to heart when you were at your wits end.

Things can get better. Saying #HelloYellow this World Mental Health Day is a little thing we can do to make a BIG difference to young peoples' mental health.

Thank you to everyone who took part and donated! By using the Just Giving page that Mrs Clarke set up (Emily Clarke is fundraising for Young Minds Trust (justgiving.com) and the cash donations today, we have already met our target of £500. If anyone would still like to donate then please feel free using the link provided through ParentMail.

Yellow represents sunshine and happiness; we certainly felt that today!

    THANK YOU EVERYONE!

What a great week for supporting children and their families. Have a great weekend,

    Mrs Bates

EXCITING....today, the workmen arrived to start the development work on the Reception playground! We can't wait to share the process with you and for the end product to be used by our younger children!

We are so proud of the children for entering school every morning through a different entrance and for taking their outdoor provision elsewhere around school for their safety.

They are eagerly watching the developments and even helping with their own designs as the workmen construct new pieces!

    EXCITING!

Thanks to all the parents for their patience, support and flexibility

Wow, today we held our annual harvest festival assembly, and thank you so much for all the donations. As the children entered to the autumnal music, they placed their goods, packets, tins and produce on the food bank tables in the hall and they were soon full!

Mrs Padley talked to the children about how her day started with a nutritious breakfast and how she is thankful to the farmers and their machinery for harvest time.

We all sang harvest songs together :)

Later in the week, Eastwood food bank collected your donations and thanked the school community for their contributions at this difficult time of year for so many families.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
