What a great week in school; VERY busy, VERY productive, VERY helpful and VERY exciting.

I was delighted to hear that the harvest assembly went exceptionally well on Monday. Thank you so much for all the food donations and thank you to Miss Marvin for organising. On Monday, she will be visiting the local food bank (along with some year 6 helpers) and delivering the food that you all so kindly brought into school. A true example of Greasley Beauvale Primary School serving the community.

On Thursday, the new year two classes went off into Eastwood to begin to understand the history of the local area. They visited the DH Lawrence Heritage Centre and began to learn about DH Lawrence and the legacy he left behind. The children also realised how life is different today, compared to life during times gone by.

    They really did develop their

    ‘Wonder and Curiosity’

We’ve had an exciting week this week as we have watched ‘Project Playground’ starting to take shape. The children can’t wait to get climbing, exercising and challenging themselves.

It’s almost time to ‘Overcome those Obstacles’ and develop an ‘Active Body and Active Mind’

Next week is going to continue to be busy as there will be some assessments throughout the week to gauge where the children are already at, within their new year group, what targets they need to work on next and what we really need to do to further their progress.

We are always trying to ‘Nurture, Develop and Grow’

Next Wednesday we look forward to ‘No Pens Wednesday’. The day is a national event that encourages schools and settings to put down their pens and to run a day of speaking and listening activities. ‘No Pens Day Wednesday’ also raises the children’s awareness of speech, language and communication needs and how important these skills are for life.

It’s so important to be ‘Inclusive, yet individual’

    Have a super weekend everyone!

A busy week this week in school. Everyone is now fully settled and we are thinking about the terms ahead and the learning journeys commencing. We hope that you found the termly fliers useful, which were sent out last week and that the Q&A sessions on Wednesday were also a useful source of information. Teachers enjoyed meeting many of you and it was great to hear your queries and be able to answer any of your questions. Thank you for coming.

Here at Greasley Beauvale, we have a strong evolving leadership team. If ever you need to speak to any of us regarding an issue, or share your concerns or successes, you can speak to class teachers or any one of the following members of staff from the Senior Leadership Team:

    Michelle Bates – Head Teacher

Lindsey Jamson – Deputy Head Teacher

    & English lead

Lisa Clarke – Assistant Head Teacher & science lead

Taryn Manson –Assistant Head Teacher & maths Lead

Pam Barrowcliffe – EYFS & Behaviour lead

Rachel Stevenson – Special Educational Needs and Disability

    Charlotte Busby – Curriculum Lead

India Marvin – Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural lead (SMSC)

Our year 6s made their first visit this week to Hall Park Academy for a ‘taster day’. I cannot quite believe that the next cohort are already thinking about the next stage of their educational career and making those all-important choices. A reminder that school applications do need doing soon and you will have been sent communication about this from Nottinghamshire County Council.

On Thursday, I did a learning walk across school and found that classes were lively and buzzing with curiosity and excitement. Displays are now beginning to fill with work from the term so far and topics are well underway. The school rules are clearly being followed and the children are developing a very good understanding of the Rainbow Values. Over the course of the year, we will continue to look at ways in which to support children to continue to make good progress; look at levels of challenge across school and ensure that an engaging and exciting curriculum continues to lead to good academic achievement and progress in all areas.

Today, we had our first ‘Rainbow Rewards’ assembly, which has replaced the previous ‘Gold Book’. This assembly will take place at the normal time every week (9am) and parents will be invited into the balcony to view the certificates being read out by staff. Every week will celebrate what children in each class have done across school and how one of the Rainbow Values has been met. The rewards will be discussed by the teacher and celebrate one of our new values:

Respect and acceptance – “Everyone is equal, everyone is unique”

Active body and active mind – “Take ownership over your health and well-being”

Inclusive yet individual – “Embrace diversity and be proud of who you are”

Nurture, develop and grow – “Persevere and take risks with your talents  and potential”

Believe in yourself – “Be confident in your choices”

Overcome your obstacles – “Be brave, show resilience and challenge yourself”

Wonder and curiosity – “Ask questions and seek answers”

What an exciting first week in our ‘Rainbow Rewards’ assembly today.

Excitingly, work to our playgrounds starts next week and continues over a two week period. We are having exercise equipment fitted to KS2 playground and a trim trail/climbing structure to KS1 grassed area. In addition, we have ordered extra seating areas and we can’t wait to see the projects being erected. The developers and contractors have everything in place to ensure that the work does not affect playtime and that the children remain safe. However, I please ask that you talk to your child/ren about not going close to the work during the school run. We will be giving the same message at school and ensuring that staff are aware of the work being carried out.

Thank you for your support in advance and have a great weekend.

    Warm regards,

I cannot believe that we are already at the end of the first full week back into the autumn term. Once again, the children really have excelled this week and behaviour has been excellent. All of the children have settled well into their new classroom routines and are getting used to the new year group expectations and way of working. It has been so lovely getting to meet so many of the new faces and the atmosphere around school has been fantastic.

Over the course of the week, I have been into all classes and teaching and learning is well underway! The children are happy, cheerful, inquisitive and working hard. Learning is being centralised around a good quality text in every classroom and exciting reading, writing and numerical opportunities are being incorporated across the curriculum.

Look out for the year group flyers, which have been sent out this weekend from class teachers. They are very informative, but if you require any further information about life in your child’s class, and year group, then please do not hesitate to ask. We have Class Dojo that you can now use for communication with your child’s teacher. In addition, next Wednesday 19thSeptember between 3.15 and 3.45pm, there will be an open ‘drop-in’ question and answer session in every classroom (if there is anymore that you need to know from your child’s class teacher).

This week, we have been talking to the children about the new Rainbow Values. The children have really begun to understand and talk about them, and I have been very proud of how all the children are already starting to adapt to the new systems. We celebrate the Rainbow Values through the Dojo system and the new ‘Rainbow Rewards’ assembly will start to share the messages.

I look forward to the first Rainbow Rewards assembly next week.

    Our Rainbow values are:

Respect and acceptance – “Everyone is equal, everyone is unique”

Active body and active mind – “Take ownership over your health and well-being”

Inclusive yet individual – “Embrace diversity and be proud of who you are”

Nurture, develop and grow – “Persevere and take risks with your talents and potential”

Believe in yourself – “Be confident in your choices”

Overcome your obstacles – “Be brave, show resilience and challenge yourself”

At Greasley Beauvale Primary School, follow the Rainbow Values to

We hope that school life for you here at Greasley Beauvale is going well so far. Please feel free to discuss any issues with class teachers or myself. On the flip side, share the success stories too.

    Here is one from me…

Lucy, year 6, has just passed her Grade 1 Descant Recorder exam and was awarded with a merit – well done, Lucy!

    Have a great weekend everyone.

  • Welcome Back!

Fri 07 Sep 2018 Mrs Michelle Bates

I would personally like to welcome you back to the new academic year of 2018-2019. We hope that you all had a restful break and enjoyed the warm summer holidays.

We have had a super 3 days with the children and everyone has come back looking smart and happy and ready for the learning challenges ahead.

Classes are now engrossed in their new topics and there is a 'buzz' across school. We are exceptionally proud of how our new EYFS children have settled in and are already part of our wonderful team. We look forward to a bright and positive year and long may the excitement and thirst for learning continue.

Many of you have already had the opportunity to meet your child's new teacher. However, we appreciate that some may not have had the chance so far. Therefore, over the next week, there will be termly fliers sent home with all the information you require for your child's new term in school. In addition, a letter regarding our new communication system, 'Class Dojo', has been sent home. If you have any questions please ask, as all of our teachers are available both at the start of the day and at school pick up.

We hope that the start of the term has been as positive for you as it has for us, and we look forward to seeing you all soon.

    Have a great weekend.

    Warm regards,

    Mrs Michelle Bates
