  • Calendar Sync

Sat 30 Nov 2019 Mrs Bates

    Dear Parents,

A feature of the school’s website allows you to subscribe to events from the school calendar so that they download into your own personal calendar on your mobile phone, tablet or computer.

All you need to do is visit the calendar on the school website and click the link called ‘Link the school events to your personal calendar’. You can then choose from three options: to add to your default calendar (for example, on an iPhone it will go to the iPhone calendar); to add it to your Google calendar; or input it to your calendar programme of choice.

    Things to know:

    • If the school edits its calendar, the updates will appear automatically in your calendar (the time that this takes to happen will depend on your calendar programme);
    • You cannot edit the events in the school calendar;
    • All events will pull through in one colour only, not the colours set by the school;
    • You can name the calendar and choose how often to receive updates (we recommend you set this to as often as possible).
    • You can unsubscribe via your own calendar at any time.

If you have any questions or feedback, please let the office know and we can forward them to the school’s website provider

    Thank you,

    Mrs Bates

This week, the following children have received a Head Teacher’s Award:

Isla – Orange 2 – For writing a beautiful poem all about what family means to her. Isla used her phonics accurately and read her work back to check it made sense.

Kieran – Violet 2 – For completing a STUNNING double-page spread. He used his own FANTASTIC video from our trip to the Galleries of Justice to design a brilliantly informative fact page!

Alexander – Yellow 1 – For his progress in maths. Superb focus, effort and checking. Alexander is now able to complete additions independently.

Poppy – Yellow 1 – For her fantastic progress in writing. This progress is due to her listening to teacher feedback and having a go with new ideas. Super detail including historical facts.

Conor – Green 2 – For concentrating really hard on his maths and showing he can order numbers to at least 20.

      Positive praise also goes to:

It was also wonderful this week to see Max - from Indigo 2 – who has been awarded with a certificate from Southampton School of Psychology for helping out with research around reading. Well done, Max! A researcher in the making!

It was also great to see Jessica (Violet 1), and her sister Hannah (yellow 2), with their letters from Blue Peter along with their Blue Peter Music Badges.  These are issued to viewers, who are passionate about music. They both wrote to Blue Peter many weeks ago to share their love for making, playing and listening to music and discussing how they have done this over a number of years as they have developed throughout their primary years. I have never seen a real Blue Peter badge before – how exciting!

    Positive communication home includes:

Erin – Violet 1 – For fantastic manners at lunchtime every day. This has been spotted by Steph and myself at the hatch. She always thanks Steph for her lunch and delivers her thanks with a smile too!

Current attendance results are as follows:

1st place goes to Violet 1 for 98.6% attendance.

2nd place goes to Red 1 for 98.5% attendance.

3rd place goes to Blue 1 for 98.1% attendance.

This week started with the book fair trolleys being delivered and shared in assembly. I love it when the book fair arrives and I get the opportunity to share recommended reads and favourites with the children. This time, I chose to share ‘The Winky Wonky Donkey’ and also recommended the new book by Tom Fletcher, ‘The Christmasaurus and the Winter Witch’. The book fair will be seen by all the children in school and books will be on sale every day next week during Parents’ evening week. We hope that you get chance to browse and any books sold during the week will increase the level of commission that we receive as a school. This will enable us to spend money on books for school and the children. Thanks for your support in advance.

On Monday, I also sent out a Dojo to all parents to remind you that you can give your views about school using Parent View. Parent View is an online questionnaire whereby you can give your views about different aspects of school life. Your views are important to us so please take a moment to complete the form and shape the direction of further school improvement areas: https://parentview.ofsted.gov.uk/login?destination=give-your-views

On Monday evening, we had a Full Governing body meeting and we talked about the Greasley Hub/PTA and the ways in which we can develop this over this academic year. The Hub have helped over a number of years to raise money for school in many different ways, and we are very grateful to the team, but the leadership of it has now changed. Thank you to Mrs Donna Kemp and Mrs Barbara Thompson (and all the other ladies) for supporting the school and the Hub for so long.

Mrs Barrowcliffe has now taken on this role from a staff perspective and Mrs Gail Tilley from a governor perspective. We are hoping that more parents will get involved this year and help raise funds for school, but also to be a ‘voice’ for the parents also. Please let the school office, or Mrs Barrowcliffe, know if you are interested in becoming involved. With a reducing budget, and things getting tighter in schools, parents support and help is vital and we very much appreciate any help in advance.

Today was non-uniform day and we thank you all enormously for your support with this fund raiser. We had lots of different bottles and chocolates and all of your donations were greatly appreciated and welcomed. They will all go towards the raffles and the tombola for the Christmas fair. Thank you.

A reminder that on Monday you will receive your child’s autumn term report in preparation for the Parents’ evenings next Tuesday and Wednesday evening. Please speak to teachers if you have not made an appointment as we would love to see you all.

Have a great weekend. Keep Warm and see you next week.

    Warm regards,

    Michelle Bates

  • PARKIN & DRIVING in the school community

Thu 28 Nov 2019 Mrs Michelle Bates
Today, I received an anonymised letter from a member of the public regarding driving and parking around the school community. Please take a read of the letter and be mindful of this issue when driving around school at busy times of the school day.

    Thanks in advance,

    Mrs Bates

This week, the following children have received a Head Teacher’s Award:

Jacob Biggs – Red 2 – For being SO kind! It’s been noted that on three different occasions, in one morning, he had helped three different children. He helped someone take off their coat and hang it on the right peg, another to line up and the third child during an activity on the carpet. He is unaware of his kindness due to his genuine nature and the fact that he is being SO kind all the time naturally. We are very proud of his start to reception and Greasley Beauvale Primary School.

Current attendance results are as follows:

1st place goes to Blue 1 and Orange 1 for 100% attendance.

2nd place goes to Yellow 1 for 99.3% attendance.

This week has been a busy week in school. The week started off with the year 3 trip to Brackenhurst. I am told that the children had a wonderful time and learnt a lot to reinforce their topic work.

The rest of the week has been busy, whilst the children in years 1 to 6 have been completing their autumn term assessments. We have been really proud of the perseverance and resilience that the children have demonstrated this week and how committed they have been to their learning.

Following the marking and evaluating of the assessments, the teachers will then write a report for each child and send them home on Monday 2nd December in preparation for the Parents’ evening on the 3rd and 4th. Letters about these appointments have been sent home this week so please reply with your chosen dates and times as soon as possible to receive an appropriate appointment.

As a school, we are trying to be careful with the budget and one of the ways of doing this is to reduce the amount we spend on paper and photocopying. As a result, we are trying (wherever possible) to ‘go paperless’. Signing up to Class Dojo and Parent Mail is a very useful way of receiving key information and updates (e.g. key dates for your diary that have been sent out as we approach Christmas). Please ensure that all parents and carers are signed up and that way everyone in the household receives the information they need. Thanks for your support with this in advance.

    Have a great weekend.

    Warm regards,

This week, the following children have received a Head Teacher’s Award:

Hubert – Violet 1 – for making an OUTSTANDING model of a court room as part of his ‘Crime and Punishment’ topic and the big concept question for year 6, ‘Should the punishment fit the crime? The whole model was made out of paper and was a true representation. It includes the witness stand, security box, legal files, desks and telephones, the jury box and both sides of the courtroom. My favourite part was the judges hammer – the ‘Gavel’.

A trip for the year 6s to the Galleries of Justice this week showed them just that. They had a fabulous time and they too enjoyed the drama opportunities and finding out about crime and punishment long ago in a real courtroom.

Holly and Izzie – Orange 1 – For fantastic work finding out about Judaism. Both girls were able to label some Jewish artefacts.

Brook – Indigo 2 – For completing some brilliant work in maths, involving timetables, and being able to add 25 minutes and 10 minutes to bus journeys

This week, the following children have received positive praise from myself:

Harry – Blue 1 – for having the confidence to laugh at me as the Head Teacher when I was dressed as Pudsey Bear. Another child then said I looked more like Winnie the Pooh and this made Harry laugh even more. It was lovely to see Harry laughing and smiling and being out of his comfort zone. We are all humans and seeing children laugh with us, and be happy in school, is just GREAT!

Current attendance results are as follows:

1st place goes to Blue 1 and Orange 1 for 100% attendance.

2nd place goes to Yellow 1 for 99.3% attendance.

The school week started off with Remembrance day. We gave our respects to the soldiers, who gave their lives many years ago in the wars. At 11am, the whole school gave two minutes silence to mark this important event and the assembly covered the key aspects surrounding Armistice Day 2019. Our year one children, and children who attend nurture provision, had made their own poppies and wore them pride. In other classes, poppies, poems and work about this memorable day were shared and displayed.

This week has also been Inter Faith Week 2019. We have learnt a lot this week about other faiths and we have had many visitors into school.

    ABOUT THE WEEK

Inter Faith Week 2019 in England, Northern Ireland and Wales

    WHEN?

Inter Faith Week 2019 took place from Sunday 10 - Sunday 17 November.

Each year, Inter Faith Week begins on Remembrance Sunday, and runs until the following Sunday. It is hoped that the additional Sunday will provide the opportunity for other weekend events to take place as well as those linked to Remembrance Sunday.

    WHAT?

    Inter Faith Week:

    • Highlights the good work done by local faith, inter faith and faith-based groups and organisations
    • Draws new people into inter faith learning and cooperation
    • Enables greater interaction between people of different backgrounds
    • Helps develop integrated and neighbourly communities
    • Celebrates diversity and commonality
    • Opens new possibilities for partnership

    WHY?

Building good relationships and working partnerships between people of different faiths and beliefs is part of the year-round work of many people and organisations across the UK.

Having a special Week provides a focal point, helping to open inter faith activity up to a wider audience so that more and more people are made aware of the importance of this vital work and are able to participate in it.

THE THREE AIMS OF THE WEEK ARE:

    • Strengthening good inter faith relations at all levels
    • Increasing awareness of the different and distinct faith communities in the UK, in particular celebrating and building on the contribution which their members make to their neighbourhoods and to wider society
    • Increasing understanding between people of religious and non-religious beliefs

    HOW?

Anyone can take part in Inter Faith Week and hold Inter Faith Week events.

    WHO?

Inter Faith Week is for everyone.

On Wednesday, we also had ‘No Pens Wednesday’. The day encourages schools and settings to put down their pens to run a day of speaking and listening activities. Around school, there many activities that took place: sharing stories, drama, singing, debates and conversations…and much more. During the day, I was also lucky enough to be part of the year 4 parental event, where they too put down their pens and showed their parents their wonderful historic dancing. They performed a fantastic routine and were all in time, sequenced and fierce. I loved it!

The week then ended with a different feel to the way in which it started, with Children in Need. However, once again the children were showing their respect and support to other people in need and remembering the hardships that some people face. The children looked fabulous in their sporty clothing and watching the whole school do physical workouts, with live streams from Joe Wicks, was just brilliant! Thanks for all your donations, I will update you as soon as I have the final count.

It’s been a wet and windy week in school, with many playtimes lost due to the weather. Enjoy the dry spells and fresh air this weekend.

    Warm regards,

This week, the following children have received a Head Teacher’s Award:

Leah Hurd – Indigo 2 - For consistently working hard sorting out pyramids and presenting her work to a high standard.

Current attendance results are as follows:

1st place goes to Orange 2 for 98.7% attendance.

2nd place goes to Blue 2 for 98.5% attendance.

3rd place goes to Violet 2 for 98.2% attendance.

A super week back in school. The children came back respectful, ready to go and were well prepared for learning. Topics and ‘big’ questions resumed from last half term, and I am loving talking to children about their learning. We are testing out the ‘sticky knowledge’ that children should be remembering and children really are able to talk about their current learning and knowledge learnt weeks ago. Remember you have the project place mats for the terms learning…why not test your children out too.

In school, we continue to think about our curriculum as a school and the ways in which we plan knowledge and skills over time (as well as short term in year groups). We are proud of the subject offers we have in place and all of our hard work can be viewed on the website at https://www.greasleybeauvale.co.uk/curriculum/

Next week, we have ‘No Pens Wednesday’ and this is where children put down their pens and focus on speaking and listening to raise the awareness of speech, language and communication needs. This was a huge success last year and we look forward to the activities throughout the day.

    Have a great weekend everyone.

    Warm regards,
