Fri 25 Mar 2022 Mrs Bates

    Week Ending 25th March 2022

Head Teachers’ awards this week are rewarded to:

Louie – Red 1 – For amazing writing about the giant’s castle in Jack and the Beanstalk

Jacob – Red 1 – For super sentence writing about Jack and the Beanstalk

Tommy - Indigo 2 – For creating a fabulous fact sheet about the Amazon Rainforest and for getting his positive attitude to learning back!

Harry – Violet 2 – For his fantastic writing about Macbeth’s conscience and has written as both the angel AND the devil AND Macbeth himself. A great achievement and fully engrossed in the work of Shakespeare. Well done, Harry

After a week of assessments last week, the children enjoyed Shakespeare week. This was organised by Mrs Padley and the work across school was exciting and inspiring for the children. From Macbeth to Midsummer Night’s Dream and Romeo and Juliet, the children were exposed to the world of the performing arts and the life of Shakespeare in the theatre. We saw literature, small movie clips, animated versions and comic strips. A great way to learn about plays from the past and the work of a very famous playwright. GREAT! … Why not ask your children about their ‘sticky knowledge’ from the week?

A reminder that next week is the last week of school before the Easter holidays and our last virtual parents’ evenings.

Have a great weekend. I will be thinking of you all

    Mrs Bates

Wow, a REALLY busy week in school. The children have completed their spring term assessments and started to show the learning that they have remembered this term and beyond. The NFER tests are carried out in English and maths and then the children also show their writing skills through independent writing. The teachers are currently busy marking the papers and looking at any gaps to inform their planning for the summer term. In the final week of term, teachers will talk through with you your child’s progress and attainment and any targets that they need to work on moving forwards.

Last weekend was very exciting at TEAM GB and we now have two new members of the team…

After my letter last Friday, to parents of Green 2, Baby Bowen arrived early at 37 weeks!! Eeeekk! Mrs Bowen did a day of teaching and marking, and was then in hospital by 7pm. Mason Alexander Bowen entered their world at just after 10pm, weighing in at 5lb 14oz! Mummy and baby are doing very well.

Mrs Bailey and Miss Dobb will now job share within the class, and I know they have already started to settle in well already.

In addition to this great news, Baby Clarke was also born last weekend. Baby Clarke wanted in on the action too and Miss Annie Olivia Clarke entered the world last Sunday morning weighing in at 8lb 7oz. Mrs Clarke and baby are doing well and once again, we cannot wait to see her.

I’m sure you’ll all join me in wishing the families well - I love sharing good news

    Warm regards,

    Mrs Bates

    🔴 Don't forget it's Red Nose Day tomorrow! 🔴

We will be holding a virtual quiz in our classes in the morning and a whole-school 'Joke Off' in the afternoon. If your child has a favourite joke that they'd like to share with their class, that would be fantastic, and a great way to help us support the Comic Relief charity.

If you would like to make any donations, please go to our Just Giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/india-marvin

Alternatively, money donations can be brought in tomorrow 😊

Many thanks to those who have already donated!

Look out tomorrow for Greasley Beauvale's funniest jokes post tomorrow on Weduc 👀

Head Teachers’ Awards this week have been awarded to:

Freddie – Red 1 – For his amazing work during phonics. He tried so hard to read ‘ure’ words and blew everyone’s socks off with his independent writing – well done!

Olivia – Red 2 – For her fantastic work in phonics. She has been focussed and tried her best – as usual! She has even remembered capital letters, finger spaces and a full stop in her writing this week.

Oliver – Violet 1 – got a ‘shout out’ in Rainbow Rewards today for a piece of writing this week, which gave me goosebumps! Such a revised attitude to learning and dedication to want to do well and end Year 6 on a high! Well done, Oliver – proud of you!

I have had a super week in school this week. I taught in Year one towards the latter end of the week and the lessons have been interesting and fun! I have enjoyed writing stories with them the most and hearing about the adventures of hats, gloves, socks and sticks in imaginary worlds.

A team of teachers and leaders continue to drop into lessons weekly as we look at good ‘behaviour for learning’. This is more about the attitudes ‘towards learning’ and the passion to want to do well and continually improve and apply ourselves. Some of the great things we are seeing include:

    • Children actively participating in questions, challenges and discussions
    • Children actively listening when their peers or teachers are talking
    • Children seeking out resources to support them through an activity or task
    • Children using the teacher’s scaffolding or modelling to support their learning
    • Children uses prior knowledge and skills to support their learning moving forwards
    • Children asking for support when they need it, but the teacher not being the first ‘port of call’
    • Children using working walls or their knowledge organisers to develop their work and curiosity

We have openly spoken to the children about ‘behaviour for learning’ and they know what we are looking for so far. There have been improvements from the children, and we are proud of them. We aim to keep getting better and better.

This week we have employed a new teacher to teach Green 2 when Mrs Bowen goes off on maternity leave next Friday. She will be a job share with Mrs Bailey (Deputy Head Teacher) and starts on Wednesday 23rd March. We look forward to Miss Dobb starting our team, and I know the children are impressed already as they helped the leadership team with the interview process.

Have a great weekend everyone! Keep checking for those Covid signs, and we do have chicken pox in school so be vigilant.

    Warm regards,

    Mrs Bates

    Week Ending 4th March 2022

Head Teachers’ Awards this week have been awarded to:

Aaron – Violet 1 – For an outstanding attitude to independent learning. Aaron has more than met the challenge that myself and Mr Smith set him and provided some amazing facts about Brian Clough. You REDS!

World Book Day has to be the highlight of the week ….an update and photos to follow from Mr Leyshon soon! However, I have to say that the effort in costumes (both purchased, homemade and added props) were admirable and impressible. I had a few personal favourites, but everyone looked truly wonderful.

I visited all classes and reminded the children that it wasn’t just about the costumes, but the love of reading (both favourite and new books). The children were immersed in reading activities all day. Author talk, book talk, character talk and a taste of a variety of high-quality texts.

Every child also took home a free book of their choice and we also suggested book swaps in the future.

Another favourite part of the day was seeing the children’s imagination also come to life when they saw the creations of different entries for the ‘Book in a Box’ competition – so creative and very inspiring. We have some winners that will be displayed in the new library.

Thanks to everyone for yesterday’ support.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

    Warm regards,

    Mrs Bates

  • Match reports from the county football tournament

    Tue 01 Mar 2022 George - Year 6 Footballer

Match Reports from County Tournament 26th February 2022

    Match One

    Greasley Beauvale V Middleton

Oliver S was captain, and the game started well. The first half saw an early goal scored by Jagen, which was a great start for Greasley. We dominated the play in the match and Jagen scored again securing our first match win in the tournament stages.

Final Score 2-0 to Greasley Beauvale.

    Match Two

    Greasley Beauvale V Carnarvon

The team were straight on again with match two, and this was a little tougher. Greasley went 1-0 up, with a great goal by Jagen. The opposition pushed hard and there were several attempts on goal, but, thanks to the amazing skills of our goal keeper Jacob, it stayed 1-0. Ethan and Haydn pushed hard and kept the game moving at a fast pace.

Final Score 1-0 to Greasley Beauvale.

    Match Three

    Greasley Beauvale V Arnold View

This was the toughest match of the tournament for Greasley, and despite two goals by the opposition in quick succession we worked well and kept our heads up. Special mention to Thomas and Alfie who worked hard and passed the ball with great skill.

Final score 0-2 to Arnold View

    Match Four

    Greasley Beauvale V Barnby Road

Everything hinged on the final game, and Greasley came out energetic and strong. Oliver C pushed hard to try and score several times, but their keeper was very good. Ethan F also played well in defence which helped secure a draw for the final game.

    Final score 0-0

After the final game, there was a tense wait for the scores to come in and then we all knew we had come out on top with 7 points. The next three teams all scored 5 points which made us the clear champions.

    Next stop Regional Tournament………

    Go Greasley Go…….
