    Dear Parents and Carers,

Following the Prime Minister's announcement on Monday, all children are to return to school on Monday 8th March 2021. I am delighted to be sharing this news as we have spent the week making plans to ensure that we have a safe and considered wider opening.

As we did last summer, and for September 2020, I have updated the following page of the website (Coronavirus Advice and Information | Greasley Beauvale Primary School) to include a number of documents to make the rules and arrangements for a safe return clear. Please can I ask that you read all documents again as there are changes, especially to the handbook for the wider opening and the behaviour addendum policy. We ask that you please follow the guidance and share this with your child also.

We look forward to seeing you all again soon. Any questions then please give the office a call or email with your queries.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you all again soon.

    Warm regards,

    Mrs Bates

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Firstly, I hope that you had a restful half term and one that meant you had less screen time and time to make memories as a family together. A little cold, wet and windy at times but relaxing hopefully.

Today is the day we will finally know if we are to expect our children back with us from the 8th March 2021. If you can, I am sure you will be tuning in at 7pm tonight to hear the latest update and the governments ‘road map’ for coming out of the national lockdown.

Once the announcement has been made, we will be waiting on the formal guidance from the DfE (Department for Education) to be published regarding schools wider re-opening. We then update our risk assessment and it is at that point we will be in contact to let you know about any returning arrangements. This is likely to be the end of this week or early next week depending on how quickly the guidance from the DfE arrives.

Remember to do your best over the two weeks to engage in the lessons shared. In addition, please remember to let us know if you require any support with internet access, technology/devices, physical resources and/or paper packs.

Over the holidays, we found out that that 19 out of the 25 devices we sent to Retech for refurbishing have now been converted to Chromebooks and should be with us this week ready for distribution. Please do say if a device is required for your child, and we can add you to the list and hand out based on a needs basis.

We appreciate that we are in pandemic, with frustrating situations for many of us. However, we continue to strive to achieve our very best and continually look at ways we can celebrate our successes, whilst also continually looking at ways to improve. Your ongoing feedback and comments to consultations (parent voice) have been very insightful and helpful. I will write out again later this week in response to the feedback on Ofsted Parent View. You can still have your say at https://parentview.ofsted.gov.uk/login?destination=/give-your-views - thanks in advance for taking the time to complete.

Thank you for your continued support and patience - we cannot wait to see you all again soon.

    Warm regards,

    Mrs Bates

    February 2021

    Dear Children,

Wow, what a weird and wonderful world we are living in currently. We are already halfway through the academic year and almost a year into living life through a pandemic. I just cannot believe it!

I thought I would take the time to write to you, as we are still experiencing a third national lockdown and this is the second time that you have moved to remote learning. Therefore, we have not seen some of you for a while and bubbles have not been complete since before Christmas. I think I said last time that if you are finding this all very strange, that is because it is. Eventually, things will get better and (at some point) we will get back to normal. We just do not know when ‘yet’!

We are all so incredibly proud of you. Some children are in school daily; some at home all the time and some carrying out blended learning between home and school. Every scenario is different and each situation is coming with its highs and lows. We are proud of your resilience and, through your work and online learning, we can see the ways in which you are managing this pandemic. Well done! You are all true heroes.

On a personal note, I am really missing having you all together. I miss the hustle and bustle of the corridors, the sound of you walking into assemblies singing, the laughter from the playground, the clapping during Rainbow Rewards and visiting your lessons to see you all there together. I miss seeing children come to my door for a Head Teacher’s Award and having those handshakes or high fives when we celebrate the great things that you do. I genuinely hope that you can all return soon. However, we need to wait until this is allowed and safe!

I remember saying last time that life is precious and it certainly is. We need to protect ourselves, our families, our neighbours, the community and beyond. The national lockdown, restrictions, masks, hand gel, staggered times to the day and much more are all part of the plans in place to keep us safe. We are all playing our part and as the children of the Greasley community, I could not be prouder of how brave and strong you are being. I promise that one day, we will get back to mixed playtimes; trips and residentials; plays in the hall; singing in concerts; assemblies together and to see parents and volunteers in the building too.

We talk to you about the Rainbow Values regularly and we feel that they are so important - not just now, but always. Take a look at them, discuss them with your family and see which one you think you are doing well with during this third lockdown, and which one you might need to focus on next half term (or over the holidays!):

Respect and acceptance – “Everyone is equal, everyone is unique”

Active body and active mind – “Take ownership over your health and well-being”

Inclusive yet individual – “Embrace diversity and be proud of who you are”

Nurture, develop and grow – “Persevere and take risks with your talents and potential”

Believe in yourself – “Be confident in your choices”

Overcome your obstacles – “Be brave, show resilience and challenge yourself”

Wonder and curiosity – “Ask questions and seek answers”

To say “THANK YOU, WELL DONE and KEEP IT UP”, we send you a rainbow in this envelope to show you that we are thinking of you all and hope to see you again soon. Wear it with pride and when you do please ‘SMILE’ – remember to keep smiling!

Children, this storm will end one day soon. We will make the history books and your personal story will be one to share and be proud of some day with your own children and grandchildren.

    “Paint Your Own Rainbow”…

Hold your rainbow tight, close your eyes, dig deep in your mind and consider what you want at the end of your rainbow when this is all over?

YOU ARE ALL AMAZING – hang on there, children. Take care and keep safe! Have a great half-term holiday with your family and make sure you rest, as we are not setting home learning. J

Lots of love, luck and best wishes.

    Mrs Bates J

What a super week. I returned from my isolation period after being COVID-19 positive, and I was so proud of the children and how hard they have been working. In addition, I was thankful to the staff team for working so enthusiastically and passionately in my absence. It's safe to say, I am glad to be back.

After time away, I was intrigued about how the children have been finding blended learning from those who spend time both at home and school. It was a positive picture overall, and I was pleased with the comments from the children. One thing we know is that working from home can be tricky and children miss the staff and their friends.

As a result of this, from next week and after half term, we will be building in interactions between home and school using Microsoft TEAMS. I did my first Rainbow Rewards today with 5 chosen children and it was just super! It's safe to say that Amelia from Year 2 was a highlight and made everyone's day in the meeting.

We look forward to interacting with you more remotely over the next few weeks so please do ensure that you read the school's protocols and opt in to say that you consent to your child taking part and that you have read and understood the home school agreement for remote working.

Take care everyone and keep warm during the forthcoming wet and wintery weekend.

    Stay safe,

    Mrs Bates :)
