  • JUBILEE WEEK

Fri 27 May 2022 Mrs Bates

    Week Ending 27th May 2022

Head Teachers’ Awards this week have been awarded to:

Conor – Indigo 2 – For showing a fantastic attitude to learning. He has answered 500 Numbots questions and created some fantastic art.

Maisie – Yellow 2 – For her beautiful artwork. Maisie listens to instructions and presents her work with creativity in mind.

Daisy – Red 1 – For trying so hard to form her letters correctly and applying her phonic knowledge to her written work.

WOW what a great week we have had in school celebrating jubilee week. The week was kickstarted on Monday by a visit from Reverend Denise Dodd from Greasley church. She shared the history of the jubilee with the children and answered questions. There was a fun quiz and her royal bear even made an appearance down a zip wire!

The children were then off into the week’s learning, and we have seen some fantastic work! There has been a selection of letters, artwork, biographies and crowns. The children have become so knowledgeable about the jubilee and the queen’s reign and the endless number of facts that they can now recall is impressive.

On Wednesday, we hosted our Jubilee picnic and WOW, what a success. There was a chance of cancellation due to the weather, but we were determined to carry on with our plans and I am so glad we did. Steph’s indoor BBQ was a hit with the crowds and the games were very entertaining. You all came very well-prepared for the weather and the event, and the picnic went down a storm (luckily with out a storm!) Mr Parnell played the music for us, and the choir were super with their first rehearsed song. Thanks to the year 6 children for supporting with the games and to the parents, family members and governors, who supported in the planning, preparation and set up behind the scenes. I spoke with many of you and the picnic couldn’t have come at better time and certainly raised everyone’s spirits!

Thanks to all of you who came and to our amazing team for putting the jubilee picnic together. I have had many messages of thanks and celebrations and the staff and children certainly deserved it. The event raised £1650 - this was great news and very much deserved. Thanks again! The day really did bring the community back together as this was the first big family event since before the pandemic hit. The last time we were able to do a similar event was the Christmas fair in December 2019. The supportive crowds really did show that Greasley can stick together and provide opportunities for the children and families.

Today, was also fabulous. We had another non-uniform day where children could dress up in red/white/blue or come as a royal. The children were also tasked with the project of making a royal crown as part of their homework menus this term. During the afternoon there was a royal parade for crown winners, and this really did end the week in a celebratory fashion! It was perfect.

Thanks to everyone involved for making the week so perfect and planning it so well. The children learnt a lot, could recall facts, understand the past and significance of the jubilee and HAVE FUN!

I HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A SUPER HOLIDAY AND A GREAT JUBILEE BANK HOLIDAY. A reminder that we return to school on Monday 6th June 2022.

Keep safe and well and see you soon. Enjoy the rest, children 😊

    Warm regards,

    Mrs Bates

  • Basketball Update

Thu 26 May 2022 Mrs Parnell

    Greasley BB squad.

    WOW!

Proud, inspiring and enthusiastic are words that spring to mind!

Yesterday after the picnic, the team played two matches against two schools that have a long established tradition of Basketball. We played the first match but we were beaten by an excellent team. After a rest, the team really went into the next match with a great 'can do' attitude and we managed to win. It was an amazing victory and there were some brilliant baskets scored.

The squad has created a real 'buzz' about the sport around school and they are inspiring new players to take part.

Thank you to all our supporters too.

    Well done,

    Mrs Parnell

  • Head Teacher's Award

Fri 20 May 2022 Mrs Bates

    Week Ending 20th May 2022

Head Teachers’ Awards this week have been awarded to:

Chloe – Red 2 – For her absolutely fantastic independent writing today. We were blown away by her phase 3 sounds, capital letters and full stops!

Arthur – Yellow 1 – For his use of computing skills to create a piece of abstract art. Arthur used his knowledge of art by Piet Mondrian to create an image using black lines and primary colours. Skilful use of 2Paint software to create and save his image.

Sophia and Jonah – Blue 2 – Miss Watson was super impressed with their teamwork this week and attempt at retrieving information from a text to use within a persuasive piece of writing. Super presentation was also used from both children. “Teamwork makes the dream work” 😊

Ella – Green 2 – For amazing writing using her phonics to sound out words.

Have a great weekend everyone and a special rest is ordered for the Year 2 children.

    Warm regards,

  • Football update

Wed 18 May 2022 Mrs Parnell

Well done to the Girls' Football Team.

They competed yesterday in a tournament at Larkfields. To say that they have only just started training together, they were amazing. Some great performances and a lovely message from a parent who was watching:

Huge well done to all the Greasley girls today! The determination, team work and overall attitude was beyond fantastic and what a great way to represent GB! Each girl should be truly proud of their efforts today! So quick to support each other, smiled through it all and the excitement at the possibilities to play more before the year's out! Some true sportsmanship! A huge well done GB girls!

Thank you to Mason (their coach) and his assistant Ethan.

    Great team work everyone!

    Mrs Parnell

    Week Ending 13th May 2022

Head Teachers’ Awards this week have been awarded to:

Freddie – Red 1 – For his beautiful letter formation and for trying his absolute best in his writing.

Riley – Yellow 2 – For blowing Miss Schofield away with his hard work and determination. Riley has really applied himself to solve column subtraction

Dylan – Red 2 – For working so hard to use finger spaces in his writing.

Reg – Red 2 – For his beautiful writing, with the use of full stops and capital letters. Reg has had such a positive attitude in phonics. We are so proud!

Isla – Red 2 - For her amazing effort with her creative writing in her independent learning time.

Lewis – Green 1 – For being constantly respectful. There is not a second in the school day when Lewis is not respectful and ready to learn. I am so proud of you, Lewis.

Jack – Red 2 – For choosing to do writing in his independent learning time. He chose to write instructions on planting a seed, which we did in spring!

Arthur – Red 2 – For his amazing focus in our phonics lessons. This is some of this best work. What an achievement!

A BIG SHOUT OUT this week to the Year 6 children as they completed a HUGE milestone in their primary educational career. This week, the children had to use their ‘Active Body and Active Mind’, ‘Nurture, Develop and Grow’, ‘Believe in Themselves’ and ‘Overcome their Obstacles’ rainbow values to ‘Paint Their Own Rainbow’. They only went and finished their Standard Assessment Tests (SATs)!

As I said to the children on Monday morning through a WEDUC newsfeed, “The SATs do not assess all of what makes each of you special and unique. The people who create these tests and score them do not know each of you the way that we do and certainly not in the way your families do.

They do not know how well some of you can sing or draw. They have not seen your natural talent for dancing or playing of a musical instrument. They do not know that your friends can count on you to be there for them, that your laughter can brighten the darkest day or that you participate in sports. They do not show that you wonder about the future, or sometimes help your little brother or sister after school. They do not account for the fact that you are kind, trustworthy and thoughtful and that every day you try to be your very best.

The levels you will get from this test will tell you something, but they will not tell you everything. There are many ways of being smart. You are smart! So, while you are preparing for the tests, and amid it all, remember that there is no way to 'test' ALL of the amazing and awesome things that make you, YOU!”

We were so proud of the children this week. They were determined, they persevered, and they gave it their all. Many arrived at 8.15am every morning to join us for a SATs breakfast and they rose to the challenge. What will be, will be now and we hope that the children can now (once again!) return to the Create term and enjoy the art, DT, music (etc!) and prepare for the future. This includes: their residential, plays, end of term fun and the all-important transitioning time into secondary school.

As I also said on Monday, the message above applies also to the Year 2 children, and they have now finished their preparations for the KS1 (Y2) SATs, which take place next week. Good luck to all the year 2 children.

Around school, all the other children are busy being budding artists, marvellous musicians, and creative designers. The work for the create term is developing nicely and the skills embedding is growing all the time.

Have a great weekend everyone and a special rest is ordered for the Year 2 and Year 6 children.

    Warm regards,

    Mrs Bates

Fri 06 May 2022 Mrs Bates

    Week Ending 6th May 2022

Head Teachers’ Awards this week have been awarded to:

Ethan – Violet 2 – For an improved attitude in his approach towards sport. He was very committed and dedicated at the recent football matches and cross-country event. He appreciates the need for girls to share the MUGA and is supporting them in their training for their upcoming football match. He has been a pleasure to be around currently.

Isla and Elsa – Yellow – 2 – For creating carefully thought out, beautiful double page spreads in their sketchbooks all about the artist Tracey English

Grayson – Yellow 2 – For persisting with his maths today until he had that real ‘lightbulb’ moment and flew through column addition carrying the tens.

A great week in school this week. Leaders have been looking at maths lessons across school and we are fully engaged with the learning taking place across the Create Term - lots of music, art and DT happening. I have seen colour mixing with different media to create different effects in year 2 and 5. Year 4 have been fully committed in creating silhouettes to show mood (hard without facial expressions!) and I enjoyed seeing Mr Leyshon and Mr Honey in full swing with their singing and creating harmonies.

Year 1 have enjoyed their trip this week to the Yorkshire Wildlife park. The teachers and parents were extremely complimentary about the children’s behaviour, the way in which they conducted themselves and the bus driver said that they were the best group of children he had ever driven for J They had a great day (first proper trip since the start of the pandemic!) and the weather was very kind!

For year 6, this week, they have been working hard on last minute revision towards their SATs, which take place next week. They are now very ready and we just need to support them in ‘cracking on’ and showing the markers what they are made of. They have worked really hard and been very committed! I wish them all the luck in the world.

SAT results are important, for the children and the school. However, they are only a measure of a small part of what a child has to offer. They will do their best! Well done to all the Year 6 team who have supported the children since September in getting them ready for next week. Good luck, folks!

    Have a great weekend everyone!

    Warm regards,

    Mrs Bates

  • Sporting Sponsor Update

    Sporting Sponsor Update

Some of you will have noticed that our sporting achievements are on the up again. The children are now wearing smarter team kits, which show pride, professionalism and commitment to the sport and the school.

In the autumn term, our school football kit was very kindly sponsored by Dakin & Co Accountancy Services Limited (see details below):

      Email: Info@dakinsaccountancy.co.uk

We thank Mrs Samantha Dakin and her team for the kit and the sponsor. It’s safe to say that the football team have had great success in the new kit and continue to thrive.

This term, there was a quick turn-around for the new kit for other sporting events within school. The next kit was used for the cross country event and the school did exceptionally well and the boys’ team won the shield for the school.

This kit was kindly sponsored by NB Flooring (see details below):

We thank Mr Neil Bates for the kit and the sponsor, Again, it’s also safe to say that the new kit has already been successful in its debut at the cross country and is now ready for other sporting events too.

Sponsors add to the professionalism of the kit. However, it is also a great way for companies and small businesses to advertise their services within the community. We have other kits in the pipeline and we will be seeking new sponsors over time.

Please do get in touch if you are interested in sponsoring one of the new planned kits and we can discuss the details if you are interested. Please do get in touch with epoxon@greasley.notts.sch.uk or call the school office to discuss this with either Mrs Poxon or myself on 01773 712128.

    Thanks in advance,

Mrs Bates, Mrs Parnell (PE lead) and Mrs Poxon (School Business Manager)
