  • END OF TERM

Fri 22 Jul 2022 Mrs Bates

Well, I can't believe it, but school is out for the summer!

Today, we ended the term with our rainbow day, Governors' Awards and a leavers assemblies. What a celebration they all were.

We said goodbye to three members of staff (Miss Stone, Miss Dobb and Miss Martin) and wish them all well as they fly the Greasley nest. We also said goodbye to Sonny in Year 2 and our Year 6 leavers - what an emotional end!

We wish everyone a very happy summer and hope that everyone keeps safe and well.

This has been a very challenging year as we entered a post-pandemic phase and I can't thank all the staff enough for their dedication, hard work, drive and perseverance. We have had an amazing year, one where Ofsted acknowledged that we are a 'GOOD' school and have the capacity to keep on getting better! ... and that's what we will do in 2022-2023. We can't wait for further challenges and highs!

    Over and out now!

Have fun making memories and thanks for all the patience, support and gifts (along with the kind words that mean the world!)

    Mrs Bates :)

  • Performance update

Thu 21 Jul 2022 Mrs Parnell and Miss Marvin

We are so proud of the children's performances yesterday. It was absolutely stunning. The singing was beautiful and there were some very memorable acting moments, which contributed to an overall excellent last show.

Thank to the year 5 children who supported with the singing too. It will be your turn next year!

What a fabulous way to end your primary school journey year 6.

    Well done,

    Mrs Parnell and Miss Marvin

Further Head Teachers’ Awards this week have been awarded to:

Alice – Blue 2 – For supporting another child in school when they were in a tricky situation. This showed bravery and confidence. I admire you for being there for a child, younger than yourself, when they needed a little bit of help. “There should be more Alice’s’ in the world,” said one parent 😊

Stanley – Yellow 1 – For his ‘Active Body and Active Mind’ this week in maths. He has been developing his understanding of 3D shapes with shape nets and also created an informative and well-drawn poster. Well done, Stanley

Jake – Yellow 1 – For ‘Overcoming his Obstacles’ with letter formations to develop well-formed and sized letters. He has also been developing his phonic knowledge to move up a book band. Well done on your excellent attitude towards learning, Jake.

Such a busy week in school (and HOT!) The children have coped really well and continue to be committed to their learning.

Our Year 6 have been busy this week. At the beginning of the week, they were practising for their production at the end of term, receiving their SAT results and then off to their residential in Edale 😊 I look forward to the updates as reception there is so intermittent!

We welcomed new Reception children into school this week for their transitions days, and we can’t wait for them to start in September 😊

Next week is going to get hotter so please follow the below guidance for being in school during extreme weather temperatures:

    • Apply a suitable high factor sun cream to provide protection against the sun
    • Arrive to school with a full water bottle, start hydrated and stay hydrated. There are water stations to refill at break and lunch

    • Seek the shade!

Wed 06 Jul 2022 Mrs Parnell

What an amazing basketball rally after school tonight at Greasley. Two other schools attended and there was some amazing skill seen.

From the 5 matches played we won 3 of them! It was very evident that the whole basketball squad were learning to play as  team the more they play.

Thank you to 2 girls (Ava and Nancy) who helped us out tonight to make our teams have the right number of girls in. Well done to everyone and the supporters too.

Aleksi – Orange 2 – For a fabulously exciting piece of independent writing.

George – Green 1 – For his incredible effort and determination in reading and writing. George has made amazing progress in reading and is showing great enthusiasm. He is taking any constructive criticism to better his writing.

The Playground Leaders – For being so incredibly organised and leading the younger children so well in playing and leading games for them at lunchtime.

This week has been assessment week – an opportunity for children to show what they have learnt and retained this term (and year), with the hope that expected progress has been made. Of course, not all children achieve their true potential in tests. Therefore, the NFER tests, that we use, help to inform teachers assessments, which will be shared with you at the end of the academic year when reports go home (Friday 15th July 2022).

During the afternoons, this week, it has been Multi-Faith Week, whereby we have learnt about different faiths across the world and the way in which religions view how the world was created. There have been many planned visitors, including:

YR      The bible story in school with Vicar Denise Dodd

    Y1      Islam Visitor

Y2      The Creation Bible Story in school with Vicar Denise Dodd

Y3      Walk to St Marys to see Vicar Denise Dodd

    Y4      Islam Visitor

    Y5      Hindu Education Support Services

    Y6      Sikhs (SCYS) visitors

I have seen some of the visitors and workshops this week, and in many rooms you could ‘hear a pin drop’. We have spoken to the children about learning from people who ‘live and breathe’ these religions and how much we gain from true experiences. The children have looked at resources, tried clothing on, asked good questions, been reflective and showed true respect to the visitors. I have been very proud and experienced first-hand how well the week has been planned and received. Thanks to Mr Khan and Mr Honey for planning the week and arranging so many visits, visitors and workshops.

This afternoon, Mr Honey led a reflective assembly celebrating some of the work children had done over Multi-Faith Week. It was great that different children were able to bring/show/explain what they have learned about the creation story for the religion they have studied.

All in all, the children really showed their ability to be ‘Inclusive yet Individual’ and show their ‘Respect and Acceptance’.

I have been very proud of the whole school in many ways! Despite the children sitting through many assessments, it has been a great week and the children have really shone J

See you next week … get ready for Monday’s sports day! EXCITING… the first one in years! J

A reminder to view the communication about staffing for September 2022 (which is due to go out today). Children will find out their new class teacher on Tuesday and on Wednesday we will have our transition day, where children get to meet their new teacher in their new classroom.

    Have a relaxing weekend, everyone!

    Mrs Bates
