Thu 30 Apr 2020 Mrs Bates

    Good morning all,

Please take a look at the whole school story on class Dojo.

Attached is a super story to share with your children if you feel that they require a 'child-friendly' explanation about the coronavirus.

This book has been written through the support of medical consultants and professors, educational professionals an an NHS clinical psychologist. It has also been decorated by the well-known illustrator Axel Scheffler.

If you choose to use this story, we hope that the children enjoy it.

The story can also be found at the following link:

    Take care,

    Hi all,

Another very creative week in school with a fantastic team, led by Mrs L Clarke (Assistant Head).

One of my highlights was seeing the dragon outside of the school gate to celebrate St. George's Day. It was fabulous and admired by many walkers.

Once again, the children have been excellent this week and their home learning (in school) has been going very well.

We are very proud of everyone in the community, including those key workers who are enabling the country to function.

    Thank you to you all

    Warm regards,

    Mrs Bates

    Communication Update to children

    20th April 2020

    Hi all,

I thought I would take the time to write to you as it has been over a month since our school closed. It seems like ages since I saw most of you last. I hope that you have completed some of the home learning work from your teachers, whilst you have not been at school, but that you also had a super Easter. We have had some amazing weather, and I hope that you all managed to get out into the garden and have some fun with your families making very special memories. School is still open for some children and we are seeing some of your friends. Everybody is missing each other, but we manage to stay connected through Class Dojo and seeing some of your fabulous work being posted by your parents and carers.

If you are finding this all very strange, that’s because it is. It’s not only children, but adults as well, who are trying to work out a different way of living and working at the minute. Remember that you are not alone, you are part of the Greasley community and things will eventually get better and get back to normal.

I am working in school some days, and the other days I am working in my office at home with my laptop and phone. My dog Bella is being lazy and interrupts some working with her barking. The hamster, Giovanni, continues to provide us with company and cuteness. My daughter, Maisie, is trying to work on her own through her secondary school work (some of it is too hard for me!). My husband can’t go to work at this minute as he too needs to stay home and keep safe. We are all good most of the time, but sometimes we all get a little bit grumpy with each other…the next minute we are all laughing and joking. This is all perfectly normal, and I am sure you have ‘up’ and ‘down’ days in your household too! That’s ok, and you will get through it together.

Although it is frustrating and a little bit crazy at the moment, it is what is needed to help everyone stay safe and protect the NHS. By following the rules, we are all playing our part and reducing the risk to others and ourselves by keeping safe. Keep strong everyone and work it through with your family together.

At the start of the year, I reminded you all of our Rainbow Values and how important they are for life after Greasley (and not just your time in school from Reception through to Year 6). I have placed them below as a reminder. Have a read though them and think about how important they are right now to society, the community, you and your family:

Respect and acceptance – “Everyone is equal, everyone is unique”

Active body and active mind – “Take ownership over your health and well-being”

Inclusive yet individual – “Embrace diversity and be proud of who you are”

Nurture, develop and grow – “Persevere and take risks with your talents and potential”

Believe in yourself – “Be confident in your choices”

Overcome your obstacles – “Be brave, show resilience and challenge yourself”

Wonder and curiosity – “Ask questions and seek answers”

Personally, when we worked on the values three years ago (by talking to staff, parents, governors and children), I think we got them just right! Please think about which one you are doing really well with right now, but which one you may need to work harder at.

If you are in Year 6 at the moment, you need to understand that the staff really feel for you right now. We all know how hard you had worked and how well you were preparing for the final push before your SATs. We found out that the tests were not happening at exactly the same time as you did. We are also aware that you leave school in the summer and may miss out on some things you were looking forward to. Myself, Mrs Jamson, Mrs Clarke and Miss Manson will continue to think about how we will be able to prepare you for secondary life over the coming weeks.

On a personal note, I am really missing you all. Visiting your lessons, looking at the work you have produced, talking to you at lunch, giving out Head Teacher Awards and seeing you all in assemblies really has been missed. I am really looking forward to having the buzz back in our school. However, for the moment, we all need to make changes to stop coronavirus and keep everyone safe. If you can, take a moment to think about how precious life really is. If you look hard enough you will see lots of community spirit and kindness around the world. Look at the fantastic gesture the public make towards supporting our NHS every Thursday night. Personally, I clap for the school staff and you every week too.

Finally, try to stay calm. There will be a time when things are much better and you can return to Greasley. Life is full of challenges and some are bigger than others. The important thing is how you respond to those challenges. I can tell you from experience, challenges are easier to conquer when you work together to overcome them. Keep strong children! I am so proud of you all and I can not wait to see you all again soon.

    Keep safe and well,

    Mrs Bates

  • Happy Easter

Mon 13 Apr 2020 Mrs Bates
    Happy Easter, everyone!

A different kind of Easter this year, but the sun is out, the birds are singing and the sky is smiling...I hope you all are too!

Some of you may well have had plans to travel to the seaside today, or go on holiday, but this year we have to stay at home and stay safe in the back garden.

We have all been working remotely for the last few weeks and been busy at home (or school). So, as an Easter treat, we are sending you to our very own virtual beach for this lovely Easter bank holiday.

We hope you enjoy it and manage to find ‘Where’s Wally’ and all the other members of Team GB!

Have fun at the seaside, guys.... (and don’t forget your sun cream, hats and water!)

Keep smiling (we hope this makes you smile too)

Lots of love and best wishes,

    🐣🐰🥚🏖🌈👍❤️😎😁

  • Rainbows over Greasley

Tue 07 Apr 2020 Mrs Bates

    A reminder that:

"It takes sunshine and rain to make a rainbow"

"Life throws challenges and every challenge comes with rainbows and lights to conquer it"

"You'll never find a rainbow if you're looking down"

"Every storm is followed by a rainbow"

"The greater the storm, the brighter the rainbow"

"Be a rainbow in someone else's storm or cloud"

"When it rains look for rainbows"

Thanks to one of our parents in year 6 sharing the following rainbow pictures of Greasley...

Take care, keep well and safe and KEEP SMILING! :)

    Week Ending 27th March 2020

    Good afternoon everyone,

I hope that you have all had a good week - whether it be in school, working from home or keeping yourself busy and occupied! It’s a strange time, and I hope that you are all managing to adapt OK.

Normally, I would be writing today to wish everyone well over the Easter holidays and to enjoy time off school. Today, that’s an adapted message as school is open over the next two weeks for the extremely vulnerable children and for the children who have front-line worker parents. For everyone else, I wish you a safe Easter period indoors with your loved ones.

Life in school continues to be very different. We are loving spending time with the children here in different ways, but are also missing the regulars. I personally miss the buzz of the corridors, seeing you all in the playground, watching lessons take place and seeing the whole school together in Rainbow Rewards. As well as seeing the whole staff team all together, as we haven’t seen each other ‘as one’ in two weeks either.

We know that life for many is very different right now. Therefore, I wanted to share some links with you that have been coming my way over the last two weeks. This may seem like information overload, and I completely understand that, so please see this blog (and the links) as a resource bank (to dip in and out of, as you need to). Don’t look at them all at the same time (and some you may not want to read at all).

Mainly, these resources are either educational, fun or to support you with well-being and mental health. They may also help you to pass the time of day or to add that smile back when you may feel low.

By sharing these links, we are also possibly providing you with things to follow over the Easter period as no work or daily class Dojos will be sent over this time. We appreciate that some children may still want to stay busy and some of the following links may support you with that. Again, no pressure or expectation to work over the next two weeks, but just ideas to keep you going if you so wish.

    Helpful resources or ideas:

Zoos around the world are now doing live streaming for free, examples include:

    See also

    English

    Maths

    Science

Many of these have already been shared by teachers, through the weekly work, but some home learning books have still not been collected from school so these are purely reminders.

In addition to home learning, during COVID-19, we also need to think about support mechanisms for our mental health and wellbeing. Some of the following links are very useful and can also be accessed by adults within the school community:

For now, I wish you all well and I am thinking of you all.

Keep inside as much as you can, folks. Keep safe and keep well. Miss you lots, but please “Keep smiling.”

Enjoy your weekend, and Easter, everyone!

    Take care
