    Week Ending 25th September 2020

    Current attendance results are as follows:

    Whole School Percentage – 96.61%

    1st place goes to Red 1 for 99.45% attendance.

    2nd place goes to Green 1 for 99.06% attendance.

    3rd place goes to yellow 1 for 97.97% attendance.

    We are very proud of these percentages and it shows that even during a global pandemic we are seeing the importance of being at school, despite the worries and anxieties. Well done, everyone and thanks for your commitment to school life!

    This week, the following children have received a Head Teacher’s Award:

    Conor – Blue 2 – For a totally improved attitude to writing! He wrote some amazing sentences about his model and used some good vocabulary. His letter formation is improving all the time and his confidence is growing

    Mason – Violet 2 – For really working hard on his maths skills. He has conquered column subtraction with exchanges and his retention and confidence is continually growing

    Our Rainbow Value celebrations have continued this week and it is wonderful to hear the reflective comments from teachers. I have really enjoyed visiting individual classes and talking to the children about the awards, values and reasons for getting them personally with classes. I have also been asking the children that if they were their teacher, who would they give a Rainbow Reward to, why and for which Rainbow Value. You want might to discuss them at home. Which Rainbow Value does your child know, understand and like the best? And which one do they need to work on more?

    A reminder that our Rainbow values are:

    Respect and acceptance – “Everyone is equal, everyone is unique”

    Active body and active mind – “Take ownership over your health and well-being”

    Inclusive yet individual – “Embrace diversity and be proud of who you are”

    Nurture, develop and grow – “Persevere and take risks with your talents and potential”

    Believe in yourself – “Be confident in your choices”

    Overcome your obstacles – “Be brave, show resilience and challenge yourself”

    Wonder and curiosity – “Ask questions and seek answers”

    It has been lovely seeing our year 5 bubble back at school this week. We continue to have no more positive cases in school, which is great news for all of us. We have had some great comments about the blended curriculum (between school and home learning) for Indigo 2, whilst they were self-isolating. However, we have learnt from the class being at home and we will continue to evolve our offer. We will be sending a consultation to the parents and carers of Mrs Parnell's class about their views of the home learning contingency soon and we have also spoken to the children. I will be writing out soon about our plans for the blended curriculum moving forwards and what is expected from the Department of Education when children are working from home. The landscape is forever changing! Watch this space...

    Have a great weekend everyone and keep safe.

    Warm regards,

    Mrs Bates

    Despite the worries over COVID-19 symptoms and one class closure, we remain upbeat and positive in school. We appreciate the support from the school community and hope that everyone continues to follow the guidance and keep safe.

    The children have been exceptionally sensible this week and have dealt with their worries well too! They have been asking some great questions and are curious about how to stay even safer and how to protect their families! We are VERY proud them.

    This week, we re-introduced the Rainbow Rewards assemblies in classes (as we can't gather together in the hall) and it has been super to hear how children are meeting the Rainbow Values and how important they are for school and live.

    A reminder of our Vision, Aims and Rainbow Values, if you could reinforce these with your children at home please:

    Enjoy your weekend, everyone! Mrs Bates

  • Coronavirus symptoms, testing and isolation

    Thu 17 Sep 2020 Mrs Bates

    Symptoms to look out for

    Anyone displaying the following symptoms should stay at home and must not enter the school premises:

    • A high temperature – being hot to the touch on your chest or back (the NHS website states that you do not need to take the temperature);
    • A new, continuous cough – coughing for more than an hour, or three or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual);
    • A loss of, or change to, a person’s sense of smell or taste –  losing your sense of smell or taste, or things smell or taste different.

    We advise that everyone remains vigilant for the above symptoms and avoids exposure to anyone who is displaying these symptoms and/or has tested positive for coronavirus.

    When to self-isolate

    Anyone who is unwell with any of the symptoms outlined above and/or tests positive for coronavirus will need to self-isolate for the next 10 days. If they do not have symptoms, but are living with someone who does, they will need to self-isolate for the next 14 days. Those who need to self-isolate must not enter the school premises until the necessary self-isolation period has ended.

    Those who have been exposed to somebody with symptoms of coronavirus do not need to self-isolate unless they develop symptoms themselves or test positive for coronavirus.

    What to do if you need to self-isolate

    You must notify the school that your child needs to self-isolate and how long they will need to self-isolate for. Contact the school office as soon as possible (office@greasley.notts.sch.uk or 01773 712128).

    Getting tested

    If symptoms are present, staying off school for a day or two is not enough. As soon as the symptoms are discussed with us (coughs and temperatures) then a test will need to take place. You can get your child tested for coronavirus via self-referral if they are displaying symptoms or live with someone who is displaying symptoms. Your child must not come to school if they need to self-isolate.

    You need to get the test done in the first five days of having symptoms. You must notify the school office of the result of your child’s test as soon as possible.

    When to return to school

    If your child has been unable to attend school due to displaying symptoms of coronavirus, they can come back to school after 10 days of self-isolation, or if they test negative for coronavirus. If your child has been unable to attend because someone in your household has tested positive for coronavirus or displayed symptoms, but they do not develop symptoms, they can come back to school after 14 days.

    Contacting the school

    You will need to contact the school as soon as possible in the following circumstances:

    • With information that you or someone in your household is showing symptoms of coronavirus and cannot attend, where necessary;
    • With the results of any relevant coronavirus tests;
    • With concerns or queries.

    Please contact the school office should you have any concerns or queries about the information outlined in this letter.

    How to help reduce the spread of infection

    It is important that everyone in our school community does what they can to help reduce the spread of coronavirus to protect themselves and others. Please remember that it is possible to spread coronavirus even if symptoms are not present.

    Please ensure you and others in your household consider the following actions whenever possible:

    • Staying at least two metres from others, except for people in the same household and/or ‘support bubble’;
    • Washing hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after coughing or sneezing;
    • Using hand sanitiser if soap and water are not available;
    • Washing hands upon arrival and departure from the school and home;
    • Using a tissue to cover coughs and sneezes;
    • Throwing used tissues in the bin immediately;
    • Avoiding contact with the mouth, eyes and nose with unclean hands;
    • Wearing PPE where necessary, e.g. wearing face masks on public transport;
    • Avoiding car sharing wherever possible. If this is required then try to distance and wear a face covering.

    Week Ending 11th September 2020

    Firstly, I would like to thank you for your patience as we adapt to new routines and norms. It is not ideal or easy for anyone, but this week has felt better than last week already as the gate times have started to run more smoothly. Staggered times work very well for the morning, and throughout the day, and children are settled when they arrive to classes and learning, as all the children in the year group bubble are able to start at the same time.

    I have visited classes throughout the week and spoke with the children about their feelings related to wider school opening. We have discussed how it is perfectly normal to feel slightly unsettled and tired at this stage in the term, especially during a pandemic and having to follow so many rules and changes. The children have come back happy and after the first full week after such unprecedented times, I am proud that we are working through this together.

    We genuinely have had a great start to the school year under the circumstances. The Reception children have settled so well and it is lovely to have had them in this week full time. They are polite, happy and doing their absolute best to settle into their new school and primary years. We are so proud of them. Thank you so much also to our new parents, who haven’t had the chance to walk around school since last year (when they made their school choices) and some haven’t met us properly at all. It has been lovely to meet you all at the gate though and please speak to me if you have any questions.

    A reminder that next week, Years 3-6 have hot dinners in the hall and Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 have sandwiches in the classrooms. Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are nationally entitled to a free lunch, as they are all eligible for Universal Free School meals. If you want to take this offer up, the children should ask for a school packed lunch during the lunch register in the morning and this will be delivered to the classroom.

    Thank you all for your patience, understanding and care during this transition period. I am pleased, and relieved, to say that we continue to have no cases of COVID-19 in school. Together, we can tackle this. Have a good weekend!

    Sat 05 Sep 2020 Mrs Bates

    Week Ending 4th September 2020

    Welcome back to the Autumn term after a few strange and difficult months. COVID-19 really did put a stop to normality for us here at Greasley Beauvale Primary School. However, our values still stood and the school community and children were at the heart of all our planning and the decision-making (alongside government guidelines).

    I cannot believe that we are already at the end of the first week back into the autumn term. Once again, the children really have excelled this week and behaviour has been excellent. All of the children have settled well into their new classroom routines and are getting used to the new year group expectations and way of working. They have also been excellent at getting used to the handwashing, the protective measures and the new lunchtime routines. It has been so lovely getting to meet so many of the new faces and the atmosphere around school has been fantastic. Our reception children have made their transition visits successfully and the unit are getting used to names and new families. It has been lovely to meet them all over the first three days and next week they gradually build up to full time at Greasley Beauvale as they start their primary school journey.

    Over the course of the week, I have been into all classes and teaching and learning is well underway! The children are happy, cheerful, inquisitive and working hard. For those that have said they feel a little bit ‘weird’, and are a little nervous or anxious, they are glad to be back but have found the routine of school has changed slightly and they are finding it ‘strange’ having to get up in a morning at a set time again, get ready on time and get themselves to school. I think we all feel a little bit like that and I have told the children that that is perfectly normal and ok! We need to keep sharing our feelings and I think we all feel that the ‘new norm’ is a little bit weird and strange and we wished that things were back to ‘normal’ as they were pre-COVID-19. For now, we continue to follow the guidance, keep safe and keep smiling.

    The new class names and teachers are as follows:

    Red 1 – Reception – Miss Hanson

    Red 2 – Reception – Miss Manson (Assistant Head Teacher)/Mrs Bold

    Orange 1 – Year 1 – Mrs Barrowcliffe (Senior Leader)

    Orange 2 – Year 1 – Miss Schofield

    Yellow 1 – Year 2 – Mrs Clarke (Assistant Head Teacher)

    Yellow 2 – Year 2 – Miss Brown

    Green 1 – Year 3 – Mr Leyshon

    Green 2 – Year 3 – Mrs Padley/Mrs Henshaw

    Blue 1 – Year 4 – Miss Martin

    Blue 2 – Year 4 – Mrs Clarke (Nurture Lead)

    Indigo 1 – Year 5 – Mr Khan

    Indigo 2 – Year 5 – Mrs Parnell

    Violet 1 – Year 6 – Mr Honey/Mrs Jamson (Deputy Head Teacher)

    Violet 2 – Year 6 – Miss Marvin (Senior Leader)

    SEND co-ordinator– Mrs Stevenson

    PPA cover for some classes – Coach Louise and Madame Barnes

    Drum Teaching – Duncan Rose

    We have had safety measures to follow and not all are easy to follow and are an inconvenience to us all at times – staggered start and end times being the main one in all truth. Staggered entrance and exits have been suggested by the government as a way to ensure lower numbers in the grounds of the school (some schools are not letting parents into the grounds). Our staggered times are to enable children to have their parents in the grounds with them as we feel this is the most settling thing for them – especially in the first few weeks of school.

    Please follow the staggered times below and as you arrive there will be a natural flow of people coming through the gates and along the paths in the community. Thank you in advance:

    Our Rainbow Value celebrations will continue now that school life has enabled all children and year groups to be back. The children will continue to get a certificate showing the Rainbow Value that they are excelling in. Unfortunately, we cannot have groups of parents coming into school throughout the week, so these assemblies will take place in the classrooms by myself three times a week (instead of a mass gathering in the hall)…

    Years one and two (Key Stage 1) – Monday morning

    Reception – Wednesday afternoon

    Years three to six (Key Stage 2) - Friday

    Our Rainbow values are:

    Respect and acceptance – “Everyone is equal, everyone is unique”

    Active body and active mind – “Take ownership over your health and well-being”

    Inclusive yet individual – “Embrace diversity and be proud of who you are”

    Nurture, develop and grow – “Persevere and take risks with your talents  and potential”

    Believe in yourself – “Be confident in your choices”

    Overcome your obstacles – “Be brave, show resilience and challenge yourself”

    Wonder and curiosity – “Ask questions and seek answers”

    At Greasley Beauvale Primary School, follow the Rainbow Values to …

    “Paint Your Own Rainbow

    A reminder that next week, hot dinners or packed lunches will be served to Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children in the hall. All of these children are entitled to a free lunch due to their age and universal free school meals (this includes sandwiches). Therefore, you do not need to provide your child with a packed lunch if you do not want to. Key stage 2 will be eating in classrooms and therefore, do need to provide a packed lunch as no hot dinners will be served. If your child receives a free school meal then a packed lunch will be provided.

    We hope that school life for you here at Greasley Beauvale is going well so far. Please feel free to discuss any issues with class teachers or myself. On the flip side, share the success stories too.

    Have a great weekend everyone.

    Warm regards,

    Michelle Bates
