  • Head Teachers Awards

Tue 23 May 2023 Mrs Bates

Head Teacher Awards to date go to....

Patience - Orange 1 - For fantastic effort with her writing. She ordered the sentences and worked hard when forming her letters

Rylee - Indigo 1 - for working really hard on his independent writing. He overcame his obstacles by nor requiring support and not giving up. I loved his diary entries from the king's perspective

Charlie - Red 2 - For being super sensible on his hunt around school. He found so many leaves and bugs and could also say what he could not find. I am so proud of him

Roux - Red - For fantastic stamina in phonics. Roux independently wrote a dictated sentence with improved letter formation - well done!

Rosie, Chester and Priya - for super independent writing using phonics knowledge and awareness. All three children have made great improvements, either with their pace, effort, stamina, attitude, letter formation and/or independence levels. Great work produced by all three - super!

  • Great Greasley Bake Off

Mon 22 May 2023 Mrs Bates

We made the media with the success of our Great Greasley Bake-Off :)

  • Head Teacher's Blog

Fri 19 May 2023 Mrs Bates

So, once again, a very busy week in school!

As most of you are aware now, we are well into SAT mode and the children are working incredibly hard. The KS1 children are half way through their tests (we call them challenges with the children) and have so far completed their reading papers and some of the maths! I am impressed with their drive and perseverance and how they have approached the challenges.

    Next week gets even busier:

    + More SATS!! (maths)

+ BEANO media and publicity in school

    + Open afternoon (1-3pm Tuesday)

    + Parental events

    ...and more!

Have a good sunny weekend, everyone!

Fri 12 May 2023 Mrs Bates

I can't express enough this week how exceptionally proud I am of the Year 6 children during their SATS!!! (not to mention the staff!)

The grit and determination has been most impressive, but also how calm, sensible and mature they have been. The whole cohort have taken the actual tests, and the process of the whole week, in their stride. I feel that they have done their very best and tried to use all the knowledge and skills that they have been taught over the last four years, during their time in KS2, and squeezed it into their learning this week.

When I consider our Rainbow Values, they have:

    * Shown Respect and Acceptance to everyone (and each other)

    * Definitely shown their Active Bodies and Active Minds (especially during breakfast and test time!)

    * Been Inclusive and Individual to everyone and cared for each other

    * Certainly shown how they have Nurtured, Developed and Grown their talents, knowledge and skills over their time at Greasley

    * Demonstrated Belief in Themselves

    * Overcame many Obstacles at different points during the build up and the actual tests

    * Definitely shown that Wonder and Curiosity is key to success

On top of this, the children have had to show resilience and strength. We have had children moving house, being brave during times of stress and headaches, dealing with the death of a pet, a broken arm and an A&E visit for suspected broken toes....and they still haven't given up!!

    Well done, children!!

I can't wish you a good weekend until I have said a HUGE BIG THANK YOU to Miss Marvin, Mrs Parnell and the Year 6 team (as well as the large team of staff who supported with the process of the SATS). It's a lot of hard work, drive, professionalism and patience, and the children have the best team around them. A huge thanks also to Mrs Parnell and Steph for organising the SATs breakfast for the children - it went down a storm!

I am very proud - bring on the results now (I can't believe we have to wait until July as externally marked and assessed)

    Have a great weekend everyone!

Next week, we start again with our Year 2 children, who sit their KS1 SATs! They don't really know they are sitting big tests as we make the week as normal and as low key as possible due to their age! They are used to the process by now and we try to be as relaxed and 'normal' as possible.

Good luck, children - I know you will do your absolute best, just like our big children :)

  • SATs - Good luck Year 6

Tue 09 May 2023 Mrs Bates

    Re: SATs good luck!

    Dear Children in Year 6,

As you are all aware, this week is going to be a busy week due to your SAT tests in spelling, grammar, punctuation, reading and maths. I know how hard you have all worked, and I know that results mean a lot to you all. However, I just want you all to do your best and achieve what you can this week.

The SAT tests do not assess everything that you can do. They also do not look at what makes each of you special and unique. The people who design these tests, and then mark them to give you a judgement grade, do not know you personally as we do (including your family). Therefore, I feel there is something I should share with you.

The tests do not take into consideration if you can play a musical instrument or sing a solo in front of a crowd. They do not allow your natural talents to shine. They do not celebrate the fact that you may be able to speak in two languages, compete in competitions and win medals, sign for professional football clubs or have the potential to be an Olympic athlete. They do not give you extra marks for your kindness and manners and the ability to have empathy for others. They don’t acknowledge how thoughtful you are and the fact that you always work hard and try your very best. They do not take into account that some people take a little longer to process information and the fact that you may have some battles currently in your life.

What the tests do is measure the success of the school based on how you are able to perform in a test on a set day in a set subject. They do tell us something, and it’s important that you do the very best you can, but they just don’t tell us everything about you. They show us how much progress you have made since your time in year 2 and how well you can tackle tests at pace. They do not tell me how ‘smart’ you all are as you are all smart in different ways. Over the next few evenings and days, think about all the ‘smart’ things you can do and remind yourself that they are important too, and that those things make you, you! SATS do not celebrate the amazing, unique, and awesome things that you can do.

All being said, do your best and go and shine next week to the best of your abilities. I am so proud of you ALL already for your commitment, drive, perseverance, determination and battling through the hard work, challenges and pitfalls.

Now is the time to rest, sleep, believe and … ‘Paint your OWN rainbow!’

    Good luck, guys!

    Mrs Bates J

  • Head Teachers Awards

Thu 04 May 2023 Mrs Bates

Wow...half way through the half-term already!!

A busy 3 weeks ahead with KS1 and KS2 SATs but, for now, let's remind ourselves of the great work from the following children over the past few weeks:

Edward - Orange 1 - For absolutely smashing his phonics assessment and going from Yellow to Orange books! What a star.

Sienna - Orange 2 - For showing excitement, belief in herself and overcoming her obstacles when reading something new for the first time. You blew Mrs Lees away! Well done

Isabella - Orange 1 - For her fantastic effort with her writing. She really focussed and used her phonics to sound out the words. Well done.

Sophie - Orange 1 - For amazing writing about the unicorn in school. She worked hard to remember her capital letters and full stops.

Benji - Yellow 2 - For independent choosing to begin to write a sentence using known tricky words! Benji then went on to tell me what he had been doing in his book. Well done, Benji.

Holly and Jake - Blue 2 - For independent writing using adverbials. They really took care over descriptions and characters and when choosing descriptive vocabulary for their sentences. Well done; both showing great progress and determination.

Callum - Violet 1 - For being so resilient and keen to achieve. Because of this, he is achieving many great things, particularly in maths.

Toby, Ruby, Aristos and Maddison - Reception - For all being able to write about the orangutans with carefully thought out sentences and words. They drew pictures and made great posters.

Bliss - Red 1 - For amazing independent writing! She checked it all through properly herself. Well done.

Layla-Rose - Blue 2 - For fantastic use of noun phrases and amazing pace of writing. We're really proud of you, Layla.

Evie - Orange 1 - For an amazing effort planning a recount of Lost and Found. Evie really concentrated on using her phonics and remembering her capital letters and full stops.

Hugo - Green 1 - For working really hard on his independent write. His effort, presentation and finger spaces have blown my socks off! Well done, Hugo.
