WOW what a great week we have had in school celebrating jubilee week. The week was kickstarted on Monday by a visit from Reverend Denise Dodd from Greasley church. She shared the history of the jubilee with the children and answered questions. There was a fun quiz and her royal bear even made an appearance down a zip wire!

The children were then off into the week’s learning, and we have seen some fantastic work! There has been a selection of letters, artwork, biographies and crowns. The children have become so knowledgeable about the jubilee and the queen’s reign and the endless number of facts that they can now recall is impressive.

On Wednesday, we hosted our Jubilee picnic and WOW, what a success. There was a chance of cancellation due to the weather, but we were determined to carry on with our plans and I am so glad we did. Steph’s indoor BBQ was a hit with the crowds and the games were very entertaining. You all came very well-prepared for the weather and the event, and the picnic went down a storm (luckily with out a storm!) Mr Parnell played the music for us, and the choir were super with their first rehearsed song. Thanks to the year 6 children for supporting with the games and to the parents, family members and governors, who supported in the planning, preparation and set up behind the scenes. I spoke with many of you and the picnic couldn’t have come at better time and certainly raised everyone’s spirits!

Thanks to all of you who came and to our amazing team for putting the jubilee picnic together. I have had many messages of thanks and celebrations and the staff and children certainly deserved it. The event raised £1650 - this was great news and very much deserved. Thanks again! The day really did bring the community back together as this was the first big family event since before the pandemic hit. The last time we were able to do a similar event was the Christmas fair in December 2019. The supportive crowds really did show that Greasley can stick together and provide opportunities for the children and families.

Today, was also fabulous. We had another non-uniform day where children could dress up in red/white/blue or come as a royal. The children were also tasked with the project of making a royal crown as part of their homework menus this term. During the afternoon there was a royal parade for crown winners, and this really did end the week in a celebratory fashion! It was perfect.

Thanks to everyone involved for making the week so perfect and planning it so well. The children learnt a lot, could recall facts, understand the past and significance of the jubilee and HAVE FUN!

I HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A SUPER HOLIDAY AND A GREAT JUBILEE BANK HOLIDAY. A reminder that we return to school on Monday 6th June 2022.

Keep safe and well and see you soon. Enjoy the rest, children 😊

Warm regards,

Mrs Bates
