End of Term Update

Good afternoon,

We hope that you have had a lovely week and are looking forward to the half term break.😀

Please see below some reminders, dates for the diary and some information you may find useful:

  • Friday was the last day of the half term.  School will be closed from Monday 27th May to Friday 31st May. School will reopen on Monday 3rd June

  • The swimming pool has arrived in school and will be filled during the half term holiday.  Year 3’s will be having their lessons as soon as we return form the half term break, the week’s commencing the 3rd and 10th June.  The plan for the other key stage 2 year groups is as follows:         - Year 4 will swim weeks commencing 17th June and 15th                      July (this is a change to the dates previously communicated                              due to testing taking place during the w/c 24th June)                   - Year 5 will swim weeks commencing 1st July and 8th July                      - Year 6 will swim week commencing 24th June

During their allocated weeks, they will swim every day for 45 minutes.  Each day they will need:

- Lycra swimming costume/trunks/shorts (not bikinis or swimming shorts below the knee.)

Towel

- Swimming hat – this is non-negotiable and in the regulations drawn up by the pool company. If you do not have a hat, your child can borrow one for their lesson.

- Flip flops/sliders to walk from the changing rooms to the pool and back again.

- Dressing gown or towelling throw/extra towel to walk to and from the changing rooms

- Goggles if your child has asked to wear them and we have a permission form from you.

If you have not already done so, please complete the form, https://forms.office.com/e/DQGxhqUeU9   to provide us with some information on your child’s swimming ability and experience.  Please do not use the link sent on the original letter, as this will not work.

  • Tuesday 4th June is the Edale breakfast event for those who attended the trip.  This is an opportunity for the children and their parents and carers to view the photos taken on the trip. It starts at 8:15am and will take place in the school hall.

  • Wednesday 5th June we are running the SEND Cuppa and Chat from 2:15pm to 3:15pm.

  • Thursday 6th June is sports day for all the children in Reception to Year 6.  KS1 and Reception will be in the morning starting about 9.30am. Steph will be selling bacon and sausage rolls, hot drinks and cold drinks.  KS2 will be in the afternoon starting around 1.15pm. At this event, Steph will be selling Burgers and hot dogs, hot drinks and cold drinks. You should have received a message on Weduc to let you know your child’s team colour. On the day, your child will need to come to school in their PE kit wearing a t-shirt in their team colour. If you have not received the message, or are unsure of your child’s colour, please message their class teacher.

  • Once again, every Friday, from Friday 7th June till Friday 19th July, you will be able to purchase an ice pole for your child. This year, these will need to be purchased, in advance, on parentmail.  If you would like your child to have an ice pole, they will need to be ordered by the Wednesday of each week at the latest.  Please note that you will not be able to order them once the item has closed and you will not be able to pay for them in cash.  They are available to order and pay for now on parentmail.

  • Today, we have sorted out all of the lost property.  Thank you to the year 6 children who have helped us.  We have returned any named items to the relevant classrooms.  We still have 8 bags of unnamed lost property.  This will be put out during the first week back for you to look through.  We will let you know the exact days and times when we are back in school.

  • On Wednesday 19th June, we are running a parental open afternoon on Thinking Schools. (Please see the details below) This session will give you the opportunity to learn more about Thinking Schools and see what is meant by ‘We are on a journey to becoming a Thinking School’.  We hope to see many of you there.

  • Floral Innovations in Eastwood have asked if any of our children would like to create a picture for them to display in the shop windows in Eastwood to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day on Thursday 6 June 2024.  The pictures can be of anything relating to D-Day, (soldiers, flags, etc…).  If your child would like to do a picture for the display, please hand them into Floral Innovations, Nottingham Road, Eastwood, and not to the school, no later than Tuesday 5th June.

  • Please see attached a leaflet from Erewash Museum detailing events taking place over the half term holiday.

  • Also attached is a leaflet from St Mary’s Church who are reopening the food club. The food club is in partnership with the Midlands charity Fare Share and St Mary’s Church.  Please see the leaflet for further details.

  • Kimberley Cricket Club is running cricket coaching for boys and girls of junior school age on Fridays nights from 6-7.30 PM until the end of term - Dynamos (8-11) and All Stars (5-7).  The club also runs throughout the summer holidays. It has been a busy half term! We cannot believe that we only have 8 weeks left of this academic year, it really has flown. Have a lovely half term break and we look forward to seeing you all back in school on Monday 3rd June.

Kind regards
