Pop-Up Swimming Pool

Hello everyone,

As many of you will have noticed by now, the swimming pool was erected yesterday and the excitement about the next half-term and the forthcoming lessons is growing. 🏊‍♀️🏊‍♀️🏊‍♀️🏊‍♀️🏊‍♀️🏊‍♀️

Each child in Key Stage 2 will have the opportunity to swim in small groups. In Years 3,4, and 5 the children will swim for 45 minutes every day for 2 weeks. We have also been able to secure time for year 6 children to swim. This has not been usual for us at Greasley as the children have normally only had lessons up until the end of year 5. We are also hoping that any children who are very close to attaining the 25-metre standard will have some extra lessons to enable them to reach this. These lessons will probably be scheduled in the week beginning 15th July. This is the final week that the pool will be in the playground.

All children will be placed in a group by their class teacher. All parents will also be notified via Weduc so you can support the children in preparing their swimming kit etc.

Every day, each child will need:

  • Lycra swimming costume/trunks (not bikinis or holiday swimming shorts.)
  • Towel  Swimming hat – this is non-negotiable and in the regulations drawn up by the pool company. If you do not have a hat, your child can borrow one for their lesson.
  • Flip flops/sliders to walk from the changing rooms to the pool and back again.
  • Dressing gown or toweling throw/extra towel to walk to and from the changing rooms.
  • Goggles if your child has asked to wear them and we have a permission form from you.
  •

Your child may wish to come to school with their swimming kit on already underneath their uniform. If they do this, please ensure they have their underwear with them too.

If you have any questions, please ask your child’s class teacher.

This is a brand new venture for us and we are looking forward to seeing how much progress the children can make as they take part in an important life-saving skill.

Thank you for all your support at this incredibly busy time.
