Diary of the week:

Happy New Year and welcome back to you all!

Well, what an exciting start to the spring term. Everyone came back feeling fully refreshed and rearing to go and we have all hit the ground running in true Team GB style. The children were extremely positive and smiley on Monday morning and it was so lovely to see everybody back so positive. Everyone said how much they enjoyed breaking up later in December and having the time in January with family to chill and relax, and I am so pleased that to hear that you had a wonderful Christmas.

We started back on Monday evening with the first staff meeting of the year and enjoyed discussing the development of the vision. We talked about the skills and attitudes required of children when they leave us and also what is important to us as educators and for the children within our team. I look forward to discussing the vision further over the course of the term. Watch this space for a parental vision event coming up soon.

It was lovely this week to have a conversation with Jessica in year 4, who has been attending the Ilkeston brass band following our assembly in the autumn term. She has just been awarded the junior trophy for her attendance and commitment to the group, helping others and learning her material quickly by practising at home. I am very proud of you, Jessica.

The week couldn’t have ended better than also watching the year 2 parental engagement event to share their knowledge of the Great Fire of London. I witnessed dancing, drama and lots of singing, with many children learning lines for narrator parts too. There was a huge turn out from parents and, once again, it was so lovely to see so many of you there to experience the children’s learning.

After the first week back in January, enjoy the rest this weekend and take care,

Mrs Michelle Bates
