  • Head Teacher's BLOG

    Fri 14 Jul 2023 Mrs Bates

    An exciting but busy week in school:

    SAT results are in for the Year 6 children. We are very proud of the progress made by so many. I know the children will be very proud of themselves when they compare what scores they got this year, compared to what was achieved at the end of Key Stage 1. Very impressive.

    As a school, we know we have some work to do on the basics (e.g. spelling, handwriting and timetables). However, we couldn't be prouder of the children's individual achievements and what they have put in this year.

    Every Rainbow Rewards, I am hearing more and more teachers talking about the progress being made in lessons. Children 'Overcoming their obstacles', being more 'curious' and definitely using and developing the value of 'Nurture, Develop and Grow'. I am also hearing about the passion and love of writing within the classrooms and how children have really developed their use of flair, excitement and vocabulary within their written pieces. Many now enjoy writing and that makes me a very happy head teacher!

    We continue to think about our developments for next year:

    * Thinking Schools

    * Opal Schools

    * Wrap around care (hopefully - watch this space!)

    * The use of our nursery provision

    * Relational Schools

    * Continued parental engagement

    Next week, we will be reviewing the current school improvement plan with governors and I am proud of our developments. Thank you to everyone who completed the consultations to share your views, thoughts and ideas with them too!

    Today, I started to watch the rehearsal for the Year 2 performance! It's a cracker! I can't wait to watch again on Monday morning when they go to a live audience audience of grown-ups! It's so lovely to watch them talk, sing and share their members of their time at Greasley so far (especially in Year 2!)

    Head teacher's Awards this week go to:

     Rio - Reception - For his amazing drawing in our lesson today. Rio carefully followed instructions and took care with his picture.

    Jaxson - Reception - For working hard to create a snail and a whale out of play dough based on our English work.

    Bailey - Reception - For his brilliant work in our English lesson today, writing almost a full page of whale facts!

    Ellie - Reception for working so hard in our English lesson today and challenging herself to write a full page of whale facts!

    Jensen - Reception - For working so hard in our English lesson today and writing a whole sentence with Miss Gell.

    Have a good weekend everyone and brace yourselves for a crazy week ahead ss we enter the last full week of the academic year.

    Warm regards,

    Mrs Bates

  • External Shout Outs

    Tue 11 Jul 2023 Mrs Bates

    Shout outs this week also come from communication outside of school as children 'Nurture, develop and grow' their talents outside of the curriculum:

    Alice - Year 5:

    Good morning,my name is Richard Reeve (Manager/Coach of Moorgreen Colts fc)

    We have one of your pupils Alice who plays for our girls football team.

    Yesterday (Saturday 8th July) Alice played in our house football tournament and got all the way to the semi finals.

    This is a fantastic achievement and fully deserved,playing in a more experience team and never once looked out of place.

    Alice is a credit not only to the School, the football club and not least her parents who support Alice to become the person she is.

    Please could you share if possible

    Many thanks

    Rich Reeve

    Sisters, Imogen and Aniyah - Year 6 and Year 2:

    Good morning,

    My name is Richard Reeve (Coach/manager) of Moorgreen Colts Fc.

    We have two of your pupils Imogen and Aniyah who play for our Girls football team.

    Yesterday (Saturday 8th July) we played an in house tournament where Imogen and Aniyah didn't only just go and reach the final they went ahead and won it.

    This just goes to show how far they both have come and I honestly couldn't be prouder of them both.

    They was in a team where the other players (by the way was all boys) was more experienced but they took it in their stride to show what they was capable of.

    Imogen only playing for a couple of months and was their best player by far and both sisters where the glue to that team.

    Please if possible could you share many thanks

    Rich Reeve

    Well done, girls! Great news and updates.

    Keep up the hard work,

    Mrs Bates

    Nate - Orange 1 - For great effort with his story about marshmallow monster. He did a fantastic job sounding out the words.

  • Transition Day

    Wed 05 Jul 2023 Mrs Bates

    Such a super day today as children move up to meet their new teacher for September. They have all experienced new curriculum content, asked questions about moving on and shared any news or worries. Children have been in their new rooms and they already seem more grown up and 'ready'.

    I loved seeing all the children in their new contexts and speaking to them about fledging their current class nest.

    The Year 6 children had a great day doing enrichment activities and skateboarding was a HUGE HIT with Coach Jo! :)

    Reception teachers have visited their new children in their current nursery setting and already getting to know the children who we welcome in September.

    We are almost ready for academic year 2023-2024. Where has the time gone?

  • Basketball Update

    Mon 03 Jul 2023 Mrs Parnell

    This afternoon, I had the pleasure of taking 10 Basketball players to a tournament at The Kimberley School. It was a  great afternoon. We came third in our group. There were some super performances.

    Thank you to you all for your amazing efforts. The match we did win was against the final overall winners of the tournament! However, they won more matches than us in total.

    It does just go to show how talented our children are.

    Well done, Greasley.

    Mrs Parnell
