Co-opted Governors

Pam Tulley / Steve Rowley / Louise Bramley / Richard Wood / Katie Hill: Co-opted Governors.

Co-opted governors are appointed by the governing body to represent community interests. They can be individuals who

  • live or work in the community served by the school
  • are committed to the good governance and success of the school even though they do not work or live close to it.

The definition of a co-opted governor is wide. People from a business or professional background and minor authority representatives can be appointed as co-opted governors.

I was appointed as a co-opted governor because I have lived in Newthorpe for 40 years. During this time, I worked in the local education service and when I retired being a governor provided a great opportunity to put something back into my local community and to work on behalf of its children. Because of my background in education my link work at the school often focuses on teaching, learning, the curriculum and assessment of children’s progress.

My aim as a Governor is to ensure that all children at Greasley Beauvale receive the best education and social development possible so they can all achieve their full potential. I strongly believe that our children's safety is paramount and for that reason my main role is as the school's Named Safeguarding Governor. I have received comprehensive training and continue to develop my knowledge in this field to maintain the safety of each and every child.
If you have any safeguarding issues or bullying concerns then please contact the Headteacher in the first instance or contact me in confidence via the school office.

Becoming a Governor has been a great opportunity to try and add a little something and give something back to the school that is responsible for such an important part of my children's life. Representing the voice of the parents is important to me, and is essential to ensure that all aspects of school life truly reflect the needs our children. It's a steep learning curve, but also a great opportunity and I am looking forward to working with the Governing body and staff over the coming years.

As a recently retired local government officer I am delighted to be able to serve on the governing body of my local primary school which both my wife and I attended as well as my daughter. I find helping young people to reach their potential is hugely rewarding and in addition to my governor role I am a regular classroom helper in the school.

Katie Hill - Co-opted Governor

Register of interests and other positions held - None
Committees - Finance, Pupils & Personnel and Strategic

I was appointed as a co-opted governor as I live in Newthorpe, have children at the school and have worked within various local authorities and educational establishments throughout my career. I have extensive experience of working with children and families, with a focus around safeguarding, and have a passion for ensuring all children are able to achieve and meet the best outcomes possible. I aim to bring both my professional and personal knowledge to the governing body and in doing so hope to promote the enjoyment and attainment of children within the school.
