  • Year 3 Wollaton Hall Residential

    Mon 19 Jun 2023 Mrs Bates

    This morning, we waved goodbye to our year 3 team this time as they headed off for their one night residential/camping trip to Wollaton Hall.

    As they left, they needed no reminders about how to conduct themselves whilst away. All the children knew that our school rules of being, 'Ready, Respectful and Safe' were good guidelines to follow to enable a happy and safe stay and experience.

    I received messages that they have arrived and settled in safely.

    Todays activities include:

    - Shelter building

    - Scavenger hunt

    - Activities around the camp fire

    All the staff are hoping for a peaceful night :)

    Great news, and super memories being created already!

    Can't wait to hear more about it

    As the blog shows already, it's been a busy but fun-packed week :)

    * Children on Gem 106

    * District sports

    * Transition days

    * More awards

    ....and the year 6 residential

    It's safe to say that the children and staff have had an amazing time and truly embraced all the challenges, activities and conquered many barriers and fears (and that includes the staff too!)

    The Year 6 team have learnt many skills and will take things away with them for life. They have worked on independence, resilience, 'Believing in Themselves' and 'Overcoming Obstacles'.

    They have spent time away from home making memories, and I hope this weekend will be full of recapping, reactivating and discussion with families about their adventures.

    Despite a later time of arrival back to school, due to a slight hurdle with transport, all the staff have commented on what an amazing time they have had with the Year 6s; seeing them in a different life conquering new experiences!

    Have a great weekend, everyone!

  • Becoming more environmentally friendly

    Fri 16 Jun 2023 Mrs Bates

    We are officially making a difference :) ... and we have more plans in the pipeline to 'help build a sustainable future!' at Greasley.

    Thank you to Mrs Wright, the office team and Steve for all the work in school trying to make us more sustainable and 'green'

    Well done, everyone!

    Mrs Bates :)

  • District sports

    Thu 15 Jun 2023 Mrs Bates

    WOW...still super excited and proud by the achievements of the district sports team on Tuesday.

    It's safe to say that we have some truly talented athletes and winning the trophy for the 'large schools' category was a huge achievement...one that we have been striving for for many years.

    Clearly, the win was very well deserved. However, I was also proud of EVERY member of the team.  The conduct of the team was professional and enthusiastic and the team spirit was something to be proud of.

    Everyone supported each other and there were also many claps for the other schools (even when they were close behind us and things were getting competitive!)  Some children also had to face disappointment (and this was admirable) and some children had to brush themselves down after falls. There were many smiles along the way and I can say that there was a fair bit of cheering.

    Thanks to all the adults for supporting and to Mrs Parnell for choosing the winning team. For those who didn't make the team, they can trial again for next year, pick themselves up and keep their 'active body and active mind!' I firmly believe that competition is a life skill :)

    For those who missed a team photo at the end, we will look at doing one next week in school when Mrs Parnell returns from the Year 6 residential

    Thank you everyone,

    Mrs Bates

  • Reception - NEW STARTERS!

    Wed 14 Jun 2023 Mrs Bates

    Today, we said a huge welcome to the new starters ready for Reception in September.

    The two groups settled in so well and it was lovely to see so many friendly, happy and resilient children.

    Lovely chatting with a great set of parents!

    Roll on September 2023!

  • YEAR 6 - Edale residential

    Wed 14 Jun 2023 Mrs Bates

    At lunchtime, we waved goodbye to our year 6 team as they headed off for their two night residential to beautiful Edale.

    I received messages tonight that they have arrived and settled in safely. They have had their first evening meal and the weather is ideal for evening activities.

    Some children, this evening, have ventured out for a lovely hike up Mam Tour.

    All the staff are hoping for a peaceful night :)

    Great news, and super memories being created already!

    Can't wait to hear more about it

  • 'Kids Tell Fibs' on Gem 106 radio

    Mon 12 Jun 2023 Mrs Bates

    A HUGE good luck to 5 children in Indigo 1 this week after being invited to be part of Jo and Sparky's 'Kids Tell Fibs' on Gem 106 radio.

    I am told it will be aired at approx. 7.50am every morning this week - are you ready to decide if they are telling facts or fibs? :)

    An absolutely SUPER week this week getting back into the swing of things!!

    We still felt like we had lots to celebrate with the success of the joke off and media coverage throughout the holiday. On the return to school, I had three lovely emails of the following nature:

    1) An email from Gem 106 inviting 5 of our children to be on the radio next week to take part in Jo and Sparky's 'Kids Tell Fibs' - how amazing!!

    2) An email from a lovely gentleman in Worcestershire celebrating our success of being on the TV with a winning Beano joke. He sent the following through, which I thought was BRILLIANT:

    "Many congratulations to Olly, his year 3 classmates, Mrs Bates and the rest of the school team on your award. It's so good to see ordinary kids coming up with such a funny joke.

    As an elderly gardener with a sense of humour, not even l came up with the answer, as l watched the BBC interview. The pupils and teachers who were involved are a credit to your school. Good luck to the school and all the staff for the future.

    Doug in Worcestershire."

    And finally...

    3) An email from the Broxtowe MP, Darren Henry, getting in touch to say he saw us on the TV too and wanted to meet us all. He will be in school later this month to celebrate our success with us, hear some jokes and see our prizes.

    "I have seen through the news that one of your pupils and his class have recently been crowned winners of the Beano’s joke of the year! I’d like to pass my congratulations onto Oliver and the class..."

    Today, we sadly said goodbye to Mrs Henaghan as she departed Reception due to an end of a temporary contract and personal reasons. She has been with us now for some time as a midday and a TA and has been an asset to the team. She will be greatly missed by the staff, children and parents.

    Staffing is currently being looked at and by next week all decisions will be made and ready for communication in the next few weeks as we start to approach the end of term (how has that happened!)

    Have a lovely sunny weekend (and remember what we tell the children...sun hat, cream, hydration and maybe your shades!)

    Take care,

    Mrs Bates

  • SPORTS DAY

    Thu 08 Jun 2023 Mrs Parnell

    What an absolutely amazing day we have all had! πŸ…

    This morning, children in Early Years and Key Stage 1 were a joy to watch. Early Years children coped with the sack race so well! There were many brilliant individual performances in the flat race finals too from all children. πŸƒ‍β™€οΈπŸƒ‍♂️

    Key Stage 2 had their events this afternoon - the weather was a little warmer for them. What was so nice was the cheering from all children to encourage everyone.
