Spelling Test

Children will be tested weekly on a Friday on the spellings listed below.

If your child tests from a reduced spelling list, please learn 3-5 words. 

Friday 12th June 2026 - words that are plurals with possessive apostrophes

men's, babies', ladies', boys', girls', children's, women's, cats'

Friday 19th June 2026 words containing ‘ough’:

enough, though, although, thought, through

Friday 26th June 2026 words containing ‘tion’ or ‘sion’:

mention, position, question, occasion, possession

Friday 3rd July 2026:

caught, naughty, famous, various, busy, business

Friday 10th July 2026:

different, favourite, often, particular, remember, special, sentence

Friday 17th July 2026:

Quarter, regular, weight, length, minute, straight, strength

No spelling test on the last day Friday 24th July!

 

Weekly Homework Activities

Weekly homework activities for children in Year 4 are:

-frequent and regular reading at home (we recommend at least 3 times per week) recorded in the home school diary by an adult

-regular practise of times tables. For January and February, we recommend playing on the Garage section of Times Tables Rockstars (TTRS) for at least 21 minutes per week and playing on Soundcheck 3 times per week

-practising spelling words taught in class the previous week

In our Friday Weduc post, we will be sharing with you the spellings we have been focusing on in class. The children will be tested on these spellings in their home school diary the following Friday. 

In the table below are the Year 4 National Curriculum statutory words. These will be taught alongside the Year 4 spelling rules.
