Year 4

WELCOME TO

 YEAR 4

Autumn 1

For easy reference, here's a brief overview of the learning for this half term:

Maths – We will be starting with place value and learning how to represent, partition, order and round numbers up to 10,000. We will then use this knowledge to begin to add and subtract 4-digit numbers.

English – We will be exploring The Story of Tutankhamun, an illustrated non-fiction book about the life and rediscovery of the famous Egyptian pharaoh. We will make predictions about the text, retrieve key information and explore Tutankhamun’s family tree.

Science - We will be learning about the three states of matter: solids, liquids and gases. We will explore their properties and investigate how materials can change state when they are heated or cooled. This will include a practical experiment observing what happens when different materials, such as chocolate and jelly, are heated.

RE - In RE, we will be focusing on the question 'What kind of world would Jesus want?' This will involve discussing bible stories and how Christians can follow Jesus' example.

PSHE - Our first topic will be 'Me and My Relationships' where we will be discussing emotional awareness, positive relationships and healthy interactions with others. This will include how to work effectively together, what good friendships look like and the importance of understanding our own and others' feelings.

History - We will be learning about Ancient Egypt. We will explore what life was like for the Ancient Egyptians, including their beliefs, pharaohs, pyramids and the process of mummification.

PE will be on Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure children come in their PE kits on these days.
