Year 4

WELCOME TO

 YEAR 4

Summer 2

For easy reference, here's a brief overview of the learning for this half term:

Maths – We will be continuing our work on decimals, and then going on to cover a few short topics of money, time, shape and position.

English – We will be starting a new non-fiction text called 'Shackleton's Journey', about Shackleton's monumental voyage to Antartica. We will be using this text to write our own letters applying to be a part of the expedition and a diary entry as someone taking part.

Science - We will be starting our new unit, learning about living things and their habitats. We'll be going through different classifications of animals and creatures, and discuss how changes to the environment might have an impact on the creatures living there.

RE - We will be finishing off our Hinduism topic, and then going on to explore 'how and why do people mark the significant events in life?', covering a range of celebrations of commitment across multiple religions.

PSHE - We will be working on the topic 'Growing up'. Within this unit of work, we will be looking at the difference in boys and girls bodies, changes in puberty, reproduction and different types of families using the following vocabulary: penis, testicles, uterus, ovaries, eggs, sperm, reproduction, puberty, erection, menstruation, breasts, labia majora, labia minora, clitoris, urethra, oestrogen, testosterone, emotions, relationships, blended family, civil partnership.

This is a statutory part of the KS2 curriculum and will be taught at an age appropriate level.

In addition, we will be having a specialist workshop about living a healthy lifestyle over the course of 5 weeks.

Art - We will be learning about Sonia Delauney and the Orphism movement, and using colours to show emotions in a final piece.

PE will be on Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure children come in their PE kits on these days.
