Welcome back to the Summer Term

Find out here about some news and decisions for the summer term...
15th April 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to the summer term
I hope everyone has had a restful Easter break and made some happy memories. The children returned positively on Monday, and we are all ready for a busy and productive few months ahead.
Exciting pregnancy news
I am delighted to share some exciting news from our staff team…Miss Marvin (Year 6) and Mrs Clarke (Year 3 and Co‑SENDCo) are both expecting, and they are now excited and proud mums‑to‑be. We know you will join us in congratulating them and wishing them every happiness as they finish this academic year through their pregnancies.
Both members of staff will remain in their current classes (Green 2 and Violet 2) and continue teaching for the remainder of this academic year. However, both maternities are planned to begin early in the autumn term. It is unlikely that they will be classroom‑based at the start of the 2026–2027 academic year. However, exact arrangements for September 2026 (cover and class organisation) will be shared with parents later in the summer term once we have finalised plans.
For health and safety reasons, pregnant members of staff cannot be involved in managing any intense physical dysregulation. This is to protect both the staff member, unborn child and the pupil. If your child currently relies on Miss Marvin or Mrs Clarke, specifically during difficult moments, please:
· Talk with your child at home, using age‑appropriate language, so they understand the forthcoming temporary changes.
- Ask your child which other familiar adult in school they would prefer to support them in these moments and share that preference with the class teacher or with Mrs Clarke (for SEND and/or social, emotional and mental health matters) so we can make sure a trusted and appropriate adult is available.
Please join me in congratulating Miss Marvin and Mrs Clarke. We wish them all the best as they complete the year with their classes.
An update about Year 1/2 class organisation for September 2026
Following our recent communication with staff, parents and governors, the current Year 1/2 cohort will remain in mixed classes for next year. Leaders are currently planning the curriculum and are gathering questions raised by parents and carers to prepare a Q&A document and an updated policy to be in place for September 2026. Thank you to everyone who has already got in touch as your questions and feedback are helpful to us. We will share information and answers to any queries as soon as possible so that everyone gets the same information at the same time.
Transition consultation (whole school)
A transition consultation letter, and response form, will be sent out on Friday. This will be to inform any decisions about potential class mixes for September. Please read this carefully and respond if you have comments to make about your child’s friendships and class for next year. We will then use these to inform final decisions about class arrangements for September 2026.
Please note that due to current and upcoming maternities, job adverts and teacher resignation dates (which are at the end of May annually), staffing arrangements for September are always made later in the summer term. You will find out your child’s class teacher for next year on the Thursday 11th June 2026. The whole school transition day, where children spend the whole day with their new teacher, will be on Thursday 25th June 2026.
Key dates and reminders
Please look out for our weekly newsletters as they contain lots of dates for the diary, reminders and important information about events and deadlines across the term. They are our main way of keeping you informed, so please check them each Friday.
Good luck for statutory assessments this term
This term, children in Year 1 (and some children in Year 2 doing a re-check), Year 4 and Year 6 will be taking part in the Phonics Screening Check (PSC), Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) and Standard Assessment Tests (SATS). Good luck to all children and staff involved in these statutory assessments as we know how hard everyone is working and preparing for these.
OPAL lunchtime development
We now have a large new sandpit on the main field. The children discussed the risks and benefits in an assembly with Mrs Barrowcliffe and Mrs Stocks, this week, and they all know the rules and expectations. We’re certainly looking forward to plenty of fun by our very own Greasley beach as the sun starts to come out this term.
If there are any further queries or questions, about any of the arrangements this term, then please do get in touch.
Have a great start to the summer term and the warmer weather.
With thanks and best wishes,
Mrs Bates
