Vision, Values and Ethos

Our Vision:

At Greasley Beauvale Primary and Nursery School, our vision is for everyone to reach their full potential, nurture their talents and foster a personal love of learning, which promotes the best outcomes for the individual. We also strive to be healthy and happy, championing physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.

As a Thinking School, our approaches and curriculum encourage everyone to become independent, reflective, and creative thinkers who actively engage in their learning. By embedding the principles of Thinking Schools, we foster a culture of inquiry, resilience, and problem-solving. In turn, this enables children to develop critical thinking skills, metacognitive awareness, and a growth mindset. Through structured thinking tools, collaborative learning, and mindful strategies, we empower everyone to approach challenges with confidence, persistence, and a lifelong love for learning.

Our Aims:

To be motivated, independent and confident human beings, who remain open to continuous learning

To think about our thinking and being aware of our own thoughts, strategies, feelings and actions

To set ourselves high aspirations and strive for accuracy so that we can be the very best we can be

To think back and apply past knowledge to new situations

To create, imagine and innovate to generate possibilities and new ideas

To use our senses to be curious about the world around us by gathering new information

To think flexibly and challenge ourselves in our journey to reach our full potential

To persist with our learning, be resilient and take responsible risks

To think and communicate with clarity and precision so we are clear and understood in our learning and relationships with others

To think and work collaboratively in an environment where teamwork enables us to learn from each other

To manage impulsivity, take our time, find time for humour and remain calm and thoughtful

To ensure we are always listening with understanding and empathy, being respectful and showing kindness

Our Rainbow Values:

Respect and acceptance – “Being ready, respectful and safe in everything we do”

Active body and active mind – “Take ownership over your physical and mental wellbeing”

Inclusive yet individual – “Embrace diversity and be proud of who you are”

Nurture, develop and grow – “Persevere and take risks with your talents and potential”

Believe in yourself – “Be confident in your choices”

Overcome your obstacles – “Be brave, show resilience and challenge yourself”

Wonder and curiosity – “Ask questions and seek answers”

At Greasley Beauvale Primary and Nursery School, we… Learn. Grow. Succeed.

British Values:

This statement outlines the key British values we actively promote at this school. Greasley Beauvale Primary School is committed to serving its community and surrounding areas. We recognise the multi-cultural, multi-faith nature of the United Kingdom and understand the crucial role our school plays in promoting these values. We encourage admissions from all those entitled to education under British law regardless of faith, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, political or financial status. We are an inclusive school.

As a school we promote

  • Tolerance
  • Rule of Law
  • Individual Liberty
  • Mutual respect
  • Democracy
Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs

Our R.E curriculum provides a broad and balanced education on a range of faiths, religions and cultures. We have contact with people from around the world. These friends are invited to visit and talk to us or we have made links via Skype with them.

Rule of Law

School has links with the local police through the school liaison officer. We have a clearly structured behaviour policy which all stakeholders understand and follow. We regularly review behaviour incidents in school and share these with key stakeholders.

Individual Liberty

Pupils have key roles and responsibilities in school, Pupil Parliament is elected each year by the children and each representative wears a badge to signify their role. Within school, pupils are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. Through our extra-curricular clubs and opportunities, pupils are given the freedom to make choices.

Mutual Respect

Our PSHE curriculum embodies values of Mutual Respect through units of learning such as Relationships and Being a Responsible Citizen. Our Teachers, Teaching Assistants and Sports’ Coaches actively promote an attitude of equality and fairness in PE. Respect is one of our main school aims.

Democracy

Our children choose and lead on their own curriculum and learning, agreed on through a democratic process. Children are involved in Democratic processes e.g. voting for Pupil Parliament and shared rewards. The school council itself is led by a member of staff and adheres to democratic processes, reporting its actions to the Governing Body each year.
