Leave of absence requests
The Education (Pupil Registration) (England) 2006 regulations state that schools may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Any requests for leave during term-time will be considered on an individual basis and the length of absence permitted is determined at the sole discretion of the Head Teacher.
The following reasons for absence will not be authorised:
• Family holidays; • Birthdays or birthday celebrations; • Standard medical/dental appointments; • Day trips.
Having a good level of attendance ensures that your child has the opportunity to achieve the best possible academic progress and attainment that they can. It is important that term-time holidays are avoided whenever possible.
Should you decide to take your child out of school during term-time without authorisation from the Head Teacher, this will result in an unauthorised absence mark. Once your child has 5 days or more absent during the school year, the attendance management process will be triggered. In addition, unauthorised absences of 5 days/10 sessions, or more, over a 10-week school period for the purpose of a family holiday can lead to you being issued with a penalty notice fine of up to £160 for each child and can be issued to both parents. In addition, in some circumstances, the local authority may decide a prosecution is more suitable (for example lengthy or repeated leave of absence periods or where a parent/carer has already been issued two penalty notice fines) Please note that, if your child is in Year 1 or above and you choose to take your child/children out of school for 5 days (10 sessions) or more over a 10-week school period, a request to the local authority for a penalty notice to be issued will be made
If you still wish to apply for a leave of absence for your child, please complete the following form: https://forms.office.com/e/NCLfDCayT8 and submit it to the school office no later than 4 weeks before the first day of absence.
