Little Wandle Programme Revised

Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised

At Greasley Beauvale Primary School, we use the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised phonics program to teach children the essential skills they need to become confident and fluent readers. This systematic, synthetic phonics program is designed to help children master the key foundations of reading, writing, and spelling in a structured and engaging way.

What is Little Wandle?

Little Wandle is a high-quality phonics program based on the latest research into how children learn to read. It focuses on teaching:

  • Phonics: Linking sounds (phonemes) with letters (graphemes).
  • Blending: Combining sounds to read words.
  • Segmenting: Breaking down words to spell them.

How Do We Teach It?

  • Daily Phonics Lessons: Interactive sessions where children learn new sounds, practice blending, and read words and sentences.
  • Reading Practice Sessions: Small-group activities with carefully matched books to reinforce learning.
  • Catch-Up Support: Tailored interventions for children who need extra help.

How Can Parents Help?

You play a vital role in your child’s reading journey. Here’s how you can support them at home:

  • Read Together Daily: Share books and discuss stories to build a love of reading.
  • Practice Phonics Sounds: Use the sound cards and materials provided by school.
  • Celebrate Success: Praise your child’s efforts to boost their confidence.
