WHAT WE ARE UP TO THIS WEEK

Spring 1 / Week 6 / 12th February - 16th February 2018

MATHS

We will be continuing our work on 2D shape and will move on to sorting them according to their properties.

ENGLISH

To support our work on use of description, we will be planning and writing a description of a setting.

GRAMMAR AND PUNCTUATION

We will be applying all the skills that we have learnt so far, when writing our description.

PE

INDOOR - no indoor PE this week

OUTDOOR - striking and field games

SCIENCE

Our topic this half term is 'Animals, including humans'. This week we will be writing about what people need to survive.

DT

We will be investigating how levers work and trying to make our own.

ICT

PROGRAMMING: Using '2paint' to draw images

HANDWRITING

Focusing on the size of capital letters in relation to lower case letters

 

WHAT WE ARE UP TO THIS WEEK

Spring 1 / Week 4 / 29th January – 2nd February 2018

MATHS

We are going to continue with our focus on statistics but this week we will be looking at black graphs and looking for closely at the concept of difference.

ENGLISH

Now that we are familiar with the story of 'The Fox and the Stork' we will be re-writing our own version of the story.

GRAMMAR AND PUNCTUATION

We will be looking at irregular past tense words such as ate, ran and caught.

PE

INDOOR - orienteering

OUTDOOR - striking and field games

SCIENCE

Our topic this half term is 'Animals, including humans'. This week we will be using our statistics skills and making a graph based on the most popular foot length in our classes.

DT

We will be looking at healthy diet for a bird and making a bird feeder.

WHAT WE ARE UP TO THIS WEEK

Spring 1 / Week 3 / 22nd – 26th January 2018

MATHS

This week we will be starting our unit on statistics. We will learning to read and interpret data display in bar charts and pictograms.

ENGLISH

We will be reading the story of 'The Fox and the Stork' and we will be writing a letter from the fox to the stork to apologise for playing a nasty trick.

GRAMMAR AND PUNCTUATION

We will be revisiting how to spell some words in their contracted form and these words will be in our spelling test on Friday too.

PE

SCIENCE

Our topic this half term is 'Animals, including humans'. This week we will be describing how humans change as the grow and setting up a test to find out if children get faster as they get older.

ART

We will be designing our own birds and writing a descriptive paragraph about what they look like and where they live.

ICT

HARDWARE USE: How to log on and off correctly

HANDWRITING

Joining ll correctly, with a focus on accurate letter sizes.

 

WHAT WE ARE UP TO THIS WEEK

Spring 1 / Week 1 / 8th – 12th January 2018

MATHS

This week we will be starting our unit on division. We are going to start by looking at sharing objects into equal groups. Once we are confident doing this, we will move on to more formal division problems.

ENGLISH

We are starting our topic on Fables. We will look at the features of fables and the role of animals in fables. By the end of the week, we will have predicted and written an ending to a popular fable.

GRAMMAR AND PUNCTUATION

We will be revisiting the use of subordinating conjunctions to extend our sentences.

PE

On Wednesday we will be starting or unit on striking and field games. Our Friday PE session will be used to showcase what we learnt during our previous topic.

SCIENCE

Our topic this half term is 'Animals, including humans'. This week we will be looking at how animals grow and change and what we call baby and adult animals.

MUSIC

We are going to be listening to some music composed by Camille Saint-Saens and we will be looking at some instruments that are used in an orchestra.

ICT
