Spelling

Here is the 50 Word Spelling List Year 3 from the National Curriculum. The children will also receive weekly spellings which will be structured in order to help them learn spelling rules. For example the first week of spellings mainly focuses on the letter 'y' as an 'i' sound in words such as 'myth' and 'gym'.

For the weekly spellings, each child will be given their set spellings on a specific day, and will then have a week to practise these before their spelling test. The day of the test depends on the group they are in. The groups are as follows:

Red: These spellings are given out on Mondays, and therefore the children will have their spelling tests the following Monday.

Orange:These spellings are given out on Tuesdays, and therefore the children will have their spelling tests the following Tuesday.

Yellow: These spellings are given out on Wednesdays, and therefore the children will have their spelling tests the following Wednesday.

Green/Blue: These spellings are given out on Thursdays, and therefore the children will have their spelling tests the following Thursday.
