Semi-Final Football Match-Greasley V Larkfields

Greasley hosted Larkfields, in the semi final of the league cup.

The game kicked off, on a very warm night, and both sides played with great passion and enthusiasm.

George Moore made a couple of good saves early on and both William Earley and Matthew Salisbury kept the defence very tight.

The game was very even in the first half with some great play from both sides.  The first goal was scored by Larkfields after a very clever lob over the home keeper.

The second half began with Greasley on the attack and after several chances they deservedly equalised through Matthew Salisbury who picked the ball up on the edge of the Larkfields box and beat the goalkeeper with a great strike.

Greasley continued to have most of the play but the game finished 1-1 at full time.

Extra time of 5 minutes each way was played but there were very few chances to win the game. This meant that penalties would decide the result. Each team would take 3 penalties.

George Moore saved the first penalty, but, unfortunately, the Larkfields keeper also saved our first penalty. The away keeper then produced an outstanding save from Jacob Brewster's shot by diving to his right to keep out a blistering drive. Larkfields then scored their last 2 penalties to win the game.  It was a great semi final that was probably worthy of the final.

I would normally announce a man of the match but I would honestly say that everyone that played in that game was outstanding.

I would like to thank Sandra for her performance as referee and all the support that was given to the players.

Regards

Glenn Chambers coach
