Sport Day – Cancelled!

Unfortunately we have had to cancel Sports Day this year due to the weather forecast being rain for this afternoon. The children can still come in their PE kits as they will be partaking in some competitive sports activity at some point during the day.

Cricket League

Greasley Beauvale’s cricket team have been competing in a cricket league every Thursday at Eastwood Cricket Club. The Greasley Beauvale team have been at the top of the cricket league for some time and finished joint top with Eastwood Cricket Club. It was decided as Greasley Beauvale were beaten by Eastwood Cricket Club last night, that they would have the trophy this year.

Well done to all those children who have taken part this year, you have played brilliantly and should be really proud of yourselves.

On Sunday 11th July two cricket teams will be taking part in a cricket tournament at Eastwood Cricket Club – Good Luck Guys!

Numeracy

We have been studying area (the amount of space taken up by an object) and perimeter (the distance all the way around a shape). Year 6 have been given a sheet to solve some area and perimeter problems.

Literacy

Year 6 are to continue activities set out in the booklet (given out as the last piece of literacy homework) They should now be completing week 2. If they have completed week 2 because they are fast and efficient! they can have a week off homework or they can go onto week 3 as this will be set next week.

Fun Athletics

Well done to all the children who took part in the Fun Athletics.

Ten children from each of the Key Stage Two classes took part in the Sports festival at Lyncroft on the 1st July, winning all four events.

Children took part in javelin, shuttle run, long jump and hurdles. The event was run by Year 10 students from Eastwood comprehensive.

A fantastic event, made even better by the win! Thank you to all the parents who came along to support their children – we couldn’t do it without you!

Mrs Ratcliffe and Mrs Tobott’s class
In the Reception class we learn through topics that we choose ourselves. Since starting school in January we have had great fun learning through our topics; ‘Colour by numbers’ and ‘Teddy’s time machine’. We had a brilliant time on our first school trip to Crich Tramway Museum and found out lots of information about the history of trams. This term Teddy visited Iceland in his time machine and told us all about the erupting volcano. We were so interested in volcanoes that we built our own and even discovered how to make it erupt!

Vocational week – Owl experience with Mr Aherne

Here are some pictures of the children enjoying their owl experience during vocational week 2010 with Mr Aherne and Bob Morley from The Owl Experience in Risley, Derbyshire.

We flew, fed and learned about ‘Spike’ – a European Eagle Owl; ‘Rocky’ – the Barn Owl, which is Britain’s rarest owl; ‘Twit’ – a Tawny Owl, which is Britain’s most common owl and ‘Gizmo’ – the White Faced Scops Owl, who eats insects.
